Tomato's team-ups thread has got me wondering; If you could build a custom team, drawing in characters from BOTH the Marvel AND the DC universes...who would you pick and why?
Ohh, I'd have a hard time doing this one, as my brain tends to work in a black/white kind of way, where DC is DC, Marvel is Marvel, and never the twain shall meet. I'll be interested to see what folks say, though.
Yeah... I hate to say it, but I'm in the same boat as Benton. I can't really imagine a team with both Captain America and Superman, or Hawkeye and Green Arrow. And as funny as pairing Spiderman with Batman on the itsjustsomerandomguy specials is, I don't see them on the same superhero team.
Oddly enough, even though I asked the question, I had the same dilemma. That's why I was unable to post an answer, myself. It's interesting how difficult it is to decompartmentalize. I'll be interested to see if anyone can wrap their head around this question well enough to answer it.
UPDATE: With that said, I do mix and match characters from different universes when I play FF. For example, I might use Adam Warlock, Captain Britain, Dr. Fate, and Batman. How many of you are purists and only use an all DC squad or an all Marvel squad?
I think it's easier if you put some context into it. Instead of make your DC/Marvel dream team, try to put a story spin to it. 'Due to the machinations of a new sinister villain the Marvel and DC universes have been merged together' or 'On a cosmic mission a squad of Avengers find themselves trapped in the DC universe.' You got the starting point of a mod right there.
From there I'd start thinking about how the characters would react to their circumstances and how the two groups of characters would interact with each other. How would Batman get along with Captain America or Spider-Man. What does Thor think of Superman and Green Lantern. Stuff like that.
I tend to think of teams in terms of the characters and their history/interactions anyway so it's difficult for me to put together a dream team.
That is an excellent point, Pod! Context is a wonderful thing. I'll have to give it some thought. I am open to suggestions if anyone has one though.
Wizard Magazine once ran something regarding this very question, about what would make the most powerful superteam.
I recall Captain America being on the team for leadership, Superman for strength, Invisible Woman for defense, Doctor Strange for magic... I really wish I could see that Wizard article again. It had a drawing of the new 'team', but this was from many moons ago.
Does anyone remember the mod from days of yore in which characters from various lines, including Marvel and DC, found themselves in the Freedom Force universe? I believe George even lent his voice for Minuteman. The name has long escaped me...
I'm just going to leave this here... :) (http://braveandboldlost.blogspot.com/)
Man, I would totally read Flash Gordon/Hawkman.
Hey! Comments from two FF legends that I have never gotten to interact with! Nice to cross paths with you finally, Reep and Glitch Girl!
So what if we simplify this question a bit: If you were writing a story arc that involved a handful of characters from each universe to temporarily switch places with characters in another universe...who would you transpose and what would you hope to see happen?
