I have a weird question I doubt anyone knows the answer to, but speculation is ok! Lets imagine for a moment Irrational Games decided to do a new Freedom Force! Would the vast amount of content for the two earlier games be compatiible at all? To put it another way, anyone know whether the current Gamebryo Lightspeed Engine is backward compatible 10+ years?
Pretty sure I know the answer, seeing that not all FF stuff was even compatible with FFVTR, but thought I'd ask anyway.
That's actually something I'd fear to think about.
That's not what I'd worry about.
I'm pretty certain I could turn a Freedom force Nif (4.0.0.2) into a Fallout engine mesh (20.2.0.7) with NifSkope and Blender. Of course, FF meshes might look rather low in polys.
Current Nif is 30.0.0.2+ (that's the highest version in my nif.xml) but I imagine that as doable too. I've not bothered with Skyrim, voting with my feet when it comes to Steam.
No, the greater worry would be that I imagine it would only run on Windows8, a seriously terrifying thought.

Anything but that! I miss being able to play :ff: with FFX without error.
Windows 7 does not like :ff: with FFX. :P
Thanks for the replies guys. I run FF on VMPlayer, a free version of VMware. Just run an unpatched version of windows xp and NEVER use the browser!. Works fine for me...for the most part anyway (runs out of texture memory fast).
To be honest I kinda hope they wouldn't work. It's about time for some upgrades and new blood.
As long as the game had flying melee, a proper energy system, functional knockback from thrown objects, and an EZScript-esq system for modding, I think I could handle having to leave behind the treasure trove of amazing works. I'm sure we'd get a lot of the old guard back, and a whole new crop of creators as well. That's a problem I'd love to face.
