Title: Agent mesh recommendations?
Post by: Symon on May 16, 2013, 07:02:51 PM
As I need Demon agents for my Champions mod, I've been hunting around. Naturally, nothing will quite match, so any suitable agent mesh recommendations would be much appreciated, pref in male and female.

At the moment I'm thinking Checkmate Knights (with cut down keyframes). Any one have any other suggestions? Should have helmets, ideally with a faceplate and rifles or pistols.

I want to say that there may be something similar to that at FXForce in the hexxed meshes section, maybe a Pulp Versatile Hex?

Yeah, there's a riot cop version of pulp_versatile at FXForce, but he's got a gas mask. I was going to suggest Gren's Adam_Strange_v2, but his faceplate only comes down during hover-ranged animations. Maybe someone could skope a helmet onto Gren's Punisher for you, but I don't know what to do about a face shield.

It's been a while since I looked at them, but I think the HIVE minions in the Teen Titans mod are on a male_basic_rifle_noface mesh (or named something similar), with a faceplate skinned on.  They might suffice in a pinch, with the proper skin.

Thanks guys. At the moment I'm still leaning toward the Checkmate Knights, as they come in male and female and have full cover helmets. Failing that, the only female agents I can think of are the ones in Alex's UFO mod.

There is also the x-com meshes that come in both male and female. I always wanted to find a way to use such great meshes

The X-Com meshes can be found in his 2nd and 3rd groups:

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/Jikmeshes2/files/ (http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/Jikmeshes2/files/)

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/Jikmeshes3/files/ (http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/Jikmeshes3/files/)

Cyber also has some very excellent HIVE minions in his skope group:

For what it's worth, I did three color-coorinated groups of agent types which are at Character Obscura II:

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/characterobscura2minionsandmisc/

Look in the Minions folder. I have done some work with making some scopes using Tomato's variant body styles, but nothing that bears releasing yet.

Somone else did something similar that had all sorts of agents from various organizations, but I don't remember who, and can't look it up now.

Need to finish those female Agent-types one day...

Can you post a pic of what you want? That may get you some more appropriate and narrowed down suggestions.

Symon - Go to Meshworks and check out Blue Knight. He's in Cascarudo's Skopes section under "mainstream." He's got a helmet, a clear faceplate, and several different guns. This might work for you!

Update: He's got an AK-47, a grenade launcher, a pistol, a flamethrower, an M-16, a sniper rifle, and a pistol-grip shotgun.

Another question, is this for  :ff: or  :ffvstr:?

It's for FF.

The only things that really matter are:-
Male and Female agents.
Full head helmets.
Pistols and/or rifles.

At the moment Checkmate Knights seem the best fit. I can reduce the keyframes and hex/adjust the meshes in Blender/Nifskope (naturally - grin).

I would be willing to put together a couple of simple skopes if someone would be willing to skin them.

Would something like this work for you? It's Draven's Phantom mesh with Tomato's Male_Basic body with extras from Tommyboy. I also have a female version, but I'm not totally happy with how her belt looks.

Looks good to me!

As a general point, the game does need more agent meshes. Naturally, they aren't seen as glamorous things to mesh but they are essential.

If it works for you, then all we need is a skinner. If anyone is interested in skinning these, please let me know and I'll send the skopes your way.

Cyber - That is a seriously cool mesh!! I might give skinning it a shot, but I need a reference pic. I do not know of what "agents" you guys are speaking.

If I'm understanding correctly, this is meant to be for an original character. Basically a generic henchman/minion type character.

To give a little background, Champions is/was the first (perhaps only) really successful Super Hero RPG and dates back to the early eighties.
Demon were one of the first villainous agencies they published for the game. I felt they were pretty original, in that while neither the best at magic or technology, they were past masters of combining both effectively and could be a real pain for magic using heroes AND tech based heroes and their assumptions.

Sadly, the for the past two editions, they've been relegated to stereotypical worshipers of Cthulu-with-the-serial-numbers-filed-off, sorry the Kings of Edom.

Went looking last night for ref pictures. 45 pages of Google images later, I gave up. That said, their agents appearance has never been consistent and quite poor at times. (RPG artists find agents dull too I guess).

So all I can give are guidelines. Almost anything will do.

The main colours used are red and black (or very dark grey) with optionally a little green.
Helmets are full faced.
Weapons are hi-tech pistols/rifles and (thimble) grenades.
Chest should be red with the demon insignia on it.
There are female agents too, so the uniform needs to be unisex.
The insignia is a black inverted isosceles Triangle with a horned, jawless, demon-skull motif, usually in gold but silver or bronze might serve for different ranks.

Not much to go on I know.

Oh, waitaminit-you're working on DEMON Agents?

I've actually kinda started on that already.

When I was running a game, I just used ALL the versions of the agents, just made the ones from different modules different divisions.

Which means that I have quite a bit of reference material...

My Champions group nearly wiped out DEMON, VIPER, and Genocide... nearly...

How did I miss such excellent work Daglob?
Actually I know full well. Most people naturally want to skin (and mesh) DC or Marvel heroes. I'm weird though, they just leave me cold. I like originals, the obscure, or skins/meshes from other things, like old P&P RPGs!

I mean, Flare in her costume from the Champions first edition game! Crusader! Mechanon Mark I!

Those I will have to acquire.

Never satisfied with my own work, I restarted the DEMON Agent skope, I still have the one previewed though. I restarted the skope on Gren's Punisher mesh since it has both a rifle and hand gun. It also has the Grenade throwing animation.

If you send me that agent scope, I'll turn him into a VIPER Agent. It looks better than the hex I did.

They will get posted, but there is already a site with some Champions stuff:

http://www.ereshkigal.demon.co.uk/

It was never really completed, and hasn't been upgraded in years, but here it is. I've taken The Marksman and put him on a Punisher mesh. I'm working on my own skin and scope for Gargoyle, but he has a very nice Gremlin. He also has a Shadow Cruiser from Babylon 5!

Also, Lord Emshiddey did a couple of Champions-related skins/meshes (Flare, I'm certain). They will be in one of his Yahoo groups.

Glad you like my website. (Huge grin!!!)

I haven't updated it for a long time it's true, partially because I have no more space allocation.

I took some creative liberties with my next skope because I couldn't quite find the pieces that I wanted for it. It too has been sent to Daglob. I have some ideas for the next one as well.

cyber burn, will you be releasing these skins and skopes, or will they just be with symons mod? and skince i mostly play  :ffvstr:, do you have  :ffvstr: versions of these?
Title: Re: Agent mesh recommendations?

I'm just skoping these for  :ff: but I'm sure that they can be converted for  :ffvstr:. As to releasing these, that will be between Daglob and Symon. Once I make the skope, I send it off to Daglob, so I won't be releasing anything.

Although I thought we were gonna send the completed stuff to you, Symon...

I got your e-mail Daglob, I'll re-skope the hooded characters within the next week (I really wasn't happy with them anyways). I think I know where the problems lie, so I can fix those. As to the initial agent skopes, I'll see if I can adjust the helmet to avoid the clipping issues.

Hey Symon, after seeing the skins that Daglob has done, what do you need next for your mod?

EDIT: Descriptions or Pics would be helpful since I really don't know the characters.

I'm in pretty good shape now I think. I'll have a look though my mental list though and let you know.

At the moment I'm wrestling with road grids and doing the intro scrolling art assets and text.
