Title: black and white skins
Post by: deano_ue on March 27, 2013, 06:11:05 PM
ok this is something really stupid but i've forgot what this actually means

i've been converting all my skins to dds( bloody long and a pain in the arse) but i'm also converting all my standards to 64x64 pure black files this is to stop the blurring on standard files

but my problem is i go into the game, into character creator the standard is there pure black i select the skin it shows up i move to the real skin its there fine, i move away from the skin it goes solid white with black blotches.

now the 1 or 2 i tested in the rumble room appeared fine in game but stuff like this bug me. :banghead:

This has happened to me a few times. I believe it has to do with missing art files. You may be missing a lightmap file or possibly a refl or glow file. I know the issue is usually the pink color when this occurs, but I believe when using dds files exclusively, the result is black and white blotches. Either that or it shows up pink in CTool but as black and white blotches in game. I'm not home right now, so I can't confirm this for you.

Here's what I do when converting skins from .tga > .dds

1. Install Paint.NET (it's free)
2. Open the .tga with Paint.NET
3. Click "Save As" or press ctrl+shift+s
4. Select .dds from the "Save as Type" drop down
5. Click "Save"
6. In the pop-up menu, select "A8R8G8B8" from the .dds-type menu (right at the top-left corner)
7. Click "Ok"

And that is what I do forconverting .tga files and it works perfectly.

but all of the files are there and it doesn't explain why it happens after i see the skin. ok take my av, the file holds 2 skins standard and flesheater

i click on the mesh it shows the solid black standard i click next it shows flesheater all with no problems

now when i click next to go back to the standards and it shows black and white blobs and wont change unless i go back out of the menu

I tend to have the same issue as well, regardless if the skin is a (.TGA) or (.DDS).

It happened to me the other day; the reason was that the .nif file I was using was set to use .dds files in some parts, but the textures in the skins folder were .tga files. So, in the character creator screen, the skope didn't recognize the textures for those parts and they appeared white with those black blotches. I changed the .dds references in the .nif to .tgas and then the skins showed fine.

I never had the same problem when the .nif is set to .tga and the textures were .dds, so I don't know if your problem could be caused by the same reason.
