I don't think that CTool2 offers the choice of different directories. Just the original Character Tool does.

This is from the CTool2 documentation:
QuoteThe custom folder "mirrors" the data folder. For example, custom meshes are stored in custom\art\library\characters  whereas standard meshes are stored in data\art\library\characters. You can have custom data in a folder that has the same name as a standard mesh. For example, if you had a custom skin for Minuteman, this would be stored in custom\data\art\library\characters\minute_man and the standard mesh and skins would be in data\art\library\characters\minute_man.

In Character Tool version 2.1, you can now change the location of the custom data folder used by the tool. To do so, use the file browse button located adjacent to the custom data path file display. Once you have changed this folder, custom data will displayed from the newly chosen folder. Note that because the in-game hero editing only uses the default custom data path you can no longer edit hero definitions from the tool after you have changed this folder location. If you quit and restart the tool, the last folder you browsed to will be remembered by the file browse dialog.

So, in essence, you have two locations listed under the mesh viewing area:
Quote
Data directories in use:
     Standard  C:\Program Files (x86)\Irrational Games\Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich\Data

     Custom    C:\Users\hoss20\AppData\Local\Irrational Games\Freedom Force vs the 3rd Reich\Custom

My custom path is pointing to where my hero files are. As stated above, CTool2 automatically 'mirrors" the Standard path and will see all of the meshes in my Custom folder. The Custom folder is put in a default location, so if you've moved it or want to view meshes located elsewhere on your system, you will click on the little box to the right of the Custom path on CTool2 (the one with the three little dots "..."). This will allow you you to browse for the location you want.

You can always click on Help->Contents on the top menu for the User's Guide. It has details about Meshes, Skins, Custom Data, etc.

If I remember correctly, you can do this but the folder still has to start with "data\art\custom_characters".  I could be wrong about everything but "data" but I'm sure that's how it had to start.

So you could point to c:\data\heroes or d:\data\art\heroes or something like that, and it should work.

Yeah, CTool for  :ff: allows for using different directories, CTool for  :ffvstr: I don't believe does. It always seems to point to the :

C:\Program Files\Irrational Games\Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich\Custom\Art\library\characters

directory.

What I do is use multiple directories, and rename them as needed. But my hero files are set up to point to the alternate directories, so I can still use the characters in-game.

Seems as though I put meshes into the Custom folder but it's a no show I don't know why.

I apologize for the inaccurate info I provided. Even though the instructions state that you can alter the mesh directory and that the location saves when you shut down CTool, as Cyber said, it doesn't allow for different directories. The only thing I can think of is that your Custom folder doesn't have the directory address that CTool2 is looking for.

Perhaps you could grab a screen shot of your FFVTTR directory so we can make sure everything is in the right place.

Also, just out of curiosity, are you using  :ff: or  :ffvstr:?
