They are remaking this?  Some things just shouldn't be remade.  It's a classic; let it be.

Just rewatched Robocop recently... Paul Verhoeven movies have a mix of sleaze, hyperbole, satire and ... enthusiam? that is hard to recreate. If the movie has an ounce of black humor I might dig it, we will see.

"Robocop Begins"? meh, they shouldn't have changed the costume that much, not a huge fan of remakes anyway.

EVERYTHING MUST BE BLACK AND SLEEK BECAUSE WE ARE MODERN!

Hopefully he'll be less stiff this time around...although I'm not at all excited about the project.  They should have made Robocop vs. Terminator vs. Predator.  I would pay to see that..it was good comics.

Hmm, now that I would have been interested in.

I never had much interest in Robcop, but I like this design. The old design was cool too.

This site has a good side by side comparison:
http://ca.movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-talk/robocop-suit-revealed-first-photo-remake-163723915.html

Love that Robocop Begins comment bat1987! But I may have a case of 20/20 nostalgia vision too.
I think this update may be better,  the new headpiece looks reminiscent of a security camera...like an all seeing eye, so if this filmmaker can play up themes of corporate control like Verhoven could, we may be in for something special.

Huh. I was just rewatching the classic on Netflix last night and still didn't remember they we reworking it. I put him on my skinning list last night for that matter.
Personally I really don't care if they revamp anything. It's not like they're taking the actual original and redoing it (which was sort of the case with that ones home release as opposed to the unrated theatrical version), they're just making something else as a companion piece. Also I recall the announcement that the franchise rights changed hands recently. If I bought a property, I would make money on it too rather than letting it sit on a shelf and collect dust, I won't make any illusions about that. I think though that companies should start weighing whether to do outright revamps, or sequels/stories that take place in the same timeline as the older story. I feel Robocop would lend itself well to the latter.
This costume doesn't look like the costume does it? It looks like an undercoat for CGI to me, like the ones used in the Green Lantern film. I am highly impressed with the cast and crew attached to this remake, and enough to be considering seeing it on the big screen already, I'll say that much for it at this stage. And at the least (sorry to anyone who feels indifferently than this) It has to be better than the live action stuff that proceeded the first two films.
The recent batch of Dynamite Robocop comic books are pretty good for anyone who hasn't picked em up on a side note.

"early drafts of the script suggest RoboCop goes through several different upgrades "

That would be interesting to see

From the grape vine, Robocop is in SWAT mode in the picture above. His armour changes colours.

One thing that would make this movie cool is if there is a scene devoted to the dance. "Do the Robocop bop till you drop!"  Don't ya'll think that would be awesome?!?!  To actually see Robocop do the Robocop?

I'm guessing we are going to see some pretty cool things with the armor. The screenshot shows us the armor in SWAT mode and I'm guessing the armor will change depending on the situation. I love the original movie, but I can't wait to see what they do with today's special effects.

Gah...first Total Recall then Judge Dredd and now Robocop?!?!  What the bloody 'ell?!?!  Has Hollywood ran out of ideas and all they can do is remake things now?!?!?!

1st trailer is out.

I watched it a couple of times. The feeling I got during it was...meh. They changed so much...it should have just been a new Robocop and not Alex Murphy.

Looks ok to me. Its not gonna break any records... at all... but i think its kinda hard to reboot that character in a modern setting without it becoming the punisher wearing armor. Im excited, i loved the original, and this look like itll be entertaining at the least

If I didn't know anything about Robocop (and I pretty much don't, never really watched those movies), I would say this looks kinda cool.

It's been so long since I saw the original that I can't remember anything of substance from it.  I remember enjoying it, but I probably haven't seen it in 20 years.  That being said, this looks like it has the potential to be a decent movie.  Gary Oldman is awesome  - I'd see it just because of him.

Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Sam Jackson.... I'd buy that for a dollar!

I don't know about any of you, but if I woke up from a car explosion and found that I was now a cyborg, I wouldn't say "what have you done to me?" angrily. I would be like "oh hell yes!" That bugs me more than it should. Dude, you got messed up in a car explosion and we just spent billions of dollars making you into a freaking super hero, you ungrateful turd!

I'm not quite impressed...I mean, Robocop was supposed to have been shot to unholy pieces by a group of thugs not blown apart by a car bomb...and what's up with the human hand on one side?  Not right at all!!

It's so that he may still feel the soft, warm touch of human skin before he blows it away with his RoboGun.

Trailer looks good.  However, I don't think it's the R rated gore fest that the original was.  Hence, our hero may not be getting shot to pieces by a shotgun.

Just don't see a reason to remake a cult classic like the original Robocop, same goes for most of the other recent remakes of good films.

This just reminds me of the Total Recall remake ... add CGI and po-faced seriousness and minus the 90s-action movie violence and sly, dark humour.

This didn't need to be remade ... Robocop belongs alongside Terminator, Predator and Alien as one of those untouchable genre classics. Maybe a sequel or reboot.

Kind of a bummer because I really like Joel Kinnaman from "The Killing".

And Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Evil Dead, and others...just leave them alone Hollywood!!  Course Hollywood did go and touch Predator with the poorly done Predators...*hangs head that actually saw that bad film*

You did not just go on a website full of geeks and insult one of the classic greats of science fiction movies, I hope.  That would be somewhere between stupid and suicidal.  I'll just pretend that your idiot kid sister hacked your account or something.  For your own safety.

I'm kinda excited about the RoboCop reboot after most of the sequels and telefilms pretty much ran this franchise into the ground. I loved the cheesy humor and '80s/future satire which made the original stand out so much.. I'm pretty sure they are going for a more serious tone with the reboot but I'm sure they will have enough nods to classic lines to keep the fans happy but probably not word for word or used in a different context (not that I wouldn't love someone saying "I'll buy that for a dollar!" somewhere).

My idiot kid sister loves Battlestar Galactica and hair dye and cats and all her friends have neckbeards. She's probably into Robocop too.

I didn't watch it until I was like 16, it doesn't really hold up like Terminator 2 or Aliens or whatever.

Watch out! Bringing one up from the deep.

So we rented this movie this weekend, and loved it. I'll be honest this was another one of those movies that I waited for Bluray because I didn't think it would be worth theater dollars, but I would have been happy had I seen it at the cinema. I was also happy with the ending, except that I wished I could see the sequel right away or a television show. I am ready to find out what happens next to Alex Murphy.

I thought this movie did a great job of setting up Murphy to be someone to root for. When you see what is left of him it is really surprising and you can sense the terror that he is going through. I also liked the man vs. machine aspect of this take better than the original (I know, I know... but I said it anyway).
Spoiler
The technology used to make Murphy the perfect machine actually convinces his brain that he is still in control, so he doesn't just walk around the police station and fry himself to create a system reboot.

I really hope there is a sequel, and if you haven't watched it yet the movie is definitely worth picking up at Redbox.

I really liked this movie too.  I also waited for the DVD.  I thought this movie was a great reboot and I'd also like to see sequels.   I think the angle with family was a great addition.  The story was much deeper than the originals.

I felt like it was a good origin story, and now that the origin is out of the way I want to see a humanized Robocop take on the crime in the city.... But wait, this Robocop was so effecient that he has already cleaned up Detroit... So where do they go from here?

That is my only problem with the movie. We get very little screen time of Robocop taking on Detroit crime, and only hear about it from Sam L. Jackson's character on his television/net show.  I know time wise they had to stick to the story and make a case for the bill to pass allowing machines in law enforcement, but it did feel like he fixed the city too quickly.

Maybe a sequel would pick up a few years into the future and Robocop was never put back into the field? That might work. Allow crime to ramp back up, gangs start to take over, maybe give them some pretty high tech weapons maybe even cyborg esque gang leaders so they pose a potential threat. The criminals begin to take over and Detroit has no other choice but to reinstate Robocop.... that would work.

But, yeah, I loved the movie. I liked the look. It wasn't too bulky, never looked like a suit in my opinion, and looked fantastic in action. I felt the acting was well done, and the storyline kept a good pace. This is a movie that I will add to my collection.
