Title: Jocke's skin attempts
Post by: jocke32 on August 01, 2012, 12:10:06 AM
So while i were trying to figure out why my add to dat mission wont work I have done other things to get ready for modmaking, downloading maps and skins, creating herofiles and such, then i realized that one of the characters i wanted in my mod didn't exist (what i know) so i did an attempt to create him.
Can anyone guess who he is ? Guess right and you get a subterrainian-smiley  :P

Thanks !
The base skin i used is frost_giant from grenadier so i have just changed somethings to make it fit the character i wanted to create  :P so if it werent from him this wouldn't be more then a blue  man_bull ;)

Hi Jocke, that is a good beginning for skinning.  What you've got there is something called a kitbash, when you take someone else's skin and tweak it to create something you want.  There isn't anything wrong with kitbashing as such, but we have very careful rules here about what you can do with such a creation.  It's fine to tweak someone else's work for personal use, and it's even okay to show what you've done, provided you make it clear that you aren't taking credit for someone else's work.  However, such skins can't be released, and you always want to make it clear that you're not taking credit where it isn't do.  There are specific base skins that you can use and alter to your heart's content, but unless the readme says as much, make sure to be careful how you use other artists' works.

Hey well done on Power Man Jocke. As for advice I'm sure there's far better than me, but a couple of things:

1) Perhaps bring both the hairline and headband down a bit and maybe make the headband more symetrical.
2) Add some highlights to the wrist bands and shirt, or if its not meant to be skin tight, try for some fabric creases.

Good luck and have fun.

How do you mean ? I use layers and change things then add them to the as one when i save, do you got any tips how i can use them more ?
---------
tried to do what you said martial storm, i made some things more bright and and the hairline, its a pain in the arse to change the placement of his tiara so i didnt do that, maybe do in the future if i have the patience, i also changed the shirt abit.

I think that is my skin..Maybe not. If it is. He can do whatever he wants with it, as far as I'm concerned. All i did was turn it blue and slap some tattoos on it. Anything I did is up for grabs and free to tinker with. Best ask everyone else though Jocke.

Gren is one of the more generous creators on FR. Having the privilege of working with him in a small way and thus, being able to get to know him only enough to say that if he doesn't get back to you, that it is most likely due to him being in poor health and not visiting FR that often. When healthy, he graces us with a horde of new meshes. I've been meaning to check in on how he's feeling.
