Title: Summers request
Post by: Bloodshadow on February 07, 2012, 03:19:54 AM
I am risking my neck here on this one(sorry in advance Prev and Tomato)but I just got some issues of Generation Hope and would really like to add the five lights to the game,so does anyone have them in the works already?Or maybe somebody has them done already?
The main request here though is for Hope(quickly checks over shoulder for Tomato)
Would anybody be willing to skope her for me to skin?Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions.

Do not apologize to me for what you just did. Apologize to yourself. You'll have to live with this decision. You obvi don't love yourself enough. :P*

I can go ahead and let you know none of the Gen Hope characters have been skinned. Sorry. Despite my opinion, I hope someone can help ya out.

pretend this was an overly long, melodramatic response that was completely unnecessary. I want you to feel the sting!

Sorry the people voted against Hope, they wanted Batgirl.
The Lights are on my list but I probably won't get to any of them soon so anyone else is encouraged to jump in.

(For the record I voted for Hope - yes I vote in my own polls, otherwise I can't see the current results)

I didn't think she would win anyway, but it was your vote that got me interested in Hope again and got me to buy some Generation Hope books to check out the 5 lights,so Thank you!these are pretty good so far (gonna have to get more ^_^)
It will probably be a while before I can skin the lights cause I've still got a bunch of Legion Of Supervillains in the works but I can take a break to make Hope if a skope becomes available ;)

Why are you nervous about me? If you want to carry on the delusion that Hope isn't a waste of space, that's on your crazy head. I just took issue with you thinking she was better than Batgirl, which is just unforgivable.

I have finished a Hope Summers mesh. It is based in INK's Huntress mesh. The mesh was scaled down to Hope's young adult height. I added a crop of geometries to the mesh, as I noted that artistic interpretation of her character is heavily varied throughout her appearances,  sometimes as far as the cover and inside of the books look not even matching, and almost never fully matched between artsists/arcs/series. So it's all there. All of the parts have alpha channels and are individually mapped like Ink's and Ant's skopes so if one is inclined they can  simply use second skin sets to switch costumes rather than having to use a new mesh (usful for the random skin option in a hero file of course). She also has a BFG, courtesy of Gren's Cable. Also, and I know it's silly, but I included Gren's Terrax axe. The reason behind it is the base mesh and keys call for a delicate bo staff. I had the option to either hide the piece and leave the animations, remove everything, leave it, or replace it with something else. I went the last option of course, as Hope's new Marvel Legends action figure includes Terrax's axe as part of a Build-A-Figure incentive, and choose to use Gren's to preserve in game continuity rather than model one of my own. Feel free not to use those animation. The only bug is the hair, especially when the cape is alpha'd out. I added to hairstyles, one for the cape, and one for without, but it's still buggy. The initial one seemed to fall through the torso as it was during some hover anims. But overall it looks fine in game. Here it is anyways:

(L2R = Second Coming, Second Coming geared up, Generation Hope 5 (from the fifth issue, as usual Hope's costume varies, in this issue it was entirely different, but I liked it), Homecoming, and Homecoming geared up (wearing Cable's belt as she did in Cable #23). Her BFG and Terrax axe are on display as well of course.

(on the bottom of the page)

I'm also dopping up a Phoenix Force to go with this one. It's originally Ink and Gren's cool Phoenix mesh. I scaled it up to a bit larger than Galactus, and hid anything that isn't Phoenix, then reskinned it. Finally I heavily edited the animations to only pertain to the Phoenix Force.

Currently it's beta, and I'm looking for help on the animation's. As it stands the mesh can't attack in game, with the exception of a Melee attack. it just stands around if prompted to Direct or Projectile, ect. I'm assuming I either used the wrong animations, problem being they were the only ones where the mesh doesn't vanish. Or, that the contact points/nodes need to be moved/changed. Here's the wip for anyone who wants to take a looksee:

She looks really good but I would say the proportions are off - her chest is a little large and instead of being a young adult, she looks like a "small" adult. I tend to increase the size of the head, feet, and hands to make the proportions a little bit more accurate. What height did you shrink her down too? .9?

Also you have to change the alpha settings to stop the hair alphaing issue.

Depends I guess. As I posted, artistic interpretation of her is wildly varied, as are her age and body measurements. I went back through every comic she appeared in, and found about four to five between comics and arcs that were consistent. Your measurements would match Homecoming, but I ultimately went with her Marvel Legends figuring meshed with AvX (but again, that varied too). Inbetween that, she's only indifferent to most female adult characters (unless it's New Avengers, again, inconsistency) by height and barely for the most part. Too each their own I suppose. I'm not that technical with my stuff, as I'm not as detailed with the skins as you are with your fantastic work.
As for the alpha issue it was horse a piece. It was that or lose the ability to assign all skins to a single mesh, and lose the ability to hide the cloak and cape in this fashion. That overlap is causing the hair glitch on the Homecoming skins, which as I said isn't as strongly defined in game, at least to me. Your open as anyone else is to kitbash it and reskin though to your leisure, I would love to see what you come out with. Thanks for the input.

I'm not sure I would relay on an action figure that is reusing the same body as Elektra as body reference for Hope in-game. I read through a few issues of AVX and based on Coipel's/Cho's/Kubert's/Romita art she always looked to be a young woman around 16 obviously shorter than many of her male and female counterparts. Though I will agree many cover artists seem to think she is Jean Grey and draw her with adult proportions.

You shouldn't have an alpha issue if you change the settings in the alpha node of the mesh so that when one part is alpha'd the other pieces do not vanish as well. If done properly everything should still remain visible unless alpha'd out on the tga/dds' alpha channel - At most you would need to have few additional files - Yanke's AIO skopes are great examples of this. If you look at the no :D

Well you wouldn't rely, that's kind of my point. Hence why your free to remake this one if your not satisfied or make your own. When I said I used the figure it's only in part. It's a hodge podge due to the fact that theirs no legitimate representation of this one, so I made a choice, as well as I made a bit up. You read a few issues of AVX (I assume you mean Avengers Vs X-Men, in her appearance in AVX she once again has different proportions?). I initially went through a few image galleries to nail down her physique and costume details and found myself a little confused, as she doesn't really appear the same between them. Which makes sense, her character also jumped in age. That Homecoming costume through me for a loop in particular though, I couldn't get a back view to complete it. So off to the books. I decided to play it close to modern age, and not have her be a little kid of course.
I consider Cable to be her " home series ", like one would Sabretooth to Wolverine's books, so starting their, taking right after Stranded and one issue prior to Homecoming (personally I think her uniform in Stranded is ugly and didn't want to do it, also she's younger in body, about the age your describing now). This will be from Cable volume 2 issue #21 to issue #24, as the series ends and doesn't pick up until Deadpool and Cable #25, whereas it's a flashback and Hope is an infant again. In these issues, physically Hope is usually smaller than Cable. But, Cable is physically a mountain as it is, and next to average human males Hope is the same size. Much as you put it, like a shorter Jean Grey. Again..usually. Sometimes she's as tall as Cable is. Sometimes she has several different measurements in single page. I'm here for the costume details anyways so I note that and move through the pages. This is where it gets worse. As most know on the covers she is depicted with a dark green costume with gold lines. In the book she's depicted with a lighter blue costume with yellow lines. And for awhile black with yellow lines, then back to blue. From panel to panel the design actually shifts, staying only a little relevant. I hope I'm not coming to hard at the artist here either, but, if someone is drawing say Spider-man, generally they're spatially aware of the web lines and what not on the costume, and how many their are at all times despite any other inconsistencies...phew. But their it is. Nothing concrete so I drew that skin between the lines. The only time there's a constant is when she wears Cable's belt. Notably his Cable sized belt changes size the moment it's in her hands to fit Hope comfortably, then back to Cable's belt size once it returns to him. Things are made of Pym particles, I suppose.
Moving right on to Second Coming. This is meant to take place at the heels of Homecoming, yet, Hope has a different costume without explanation. Her screen time runs between four series, and one bookend, so naturally between different artists. Her again her body seems to vary. The costume stays...pretty much the same, but the additional components like the belts, bands, shoulder/elbow/knee pads, boots, gloves, ect, change at a book and sometimes page to panel notice again. For example in one issue her shoulder pads resemble soup strainers, otherwise they look like conventional superhero pads? These frequently disappear without notice as well BTW. The textures her costume components are made of change without notice, as well do what weapons she's carrying, sometimes the gun changes in her hand even. Right here is where I decided to put everything on an alpha channel because I realized not everyone reads every comic, and much as you are right now, everyone would have a different idea of what this character is supposed to look like in their head depending on what comic they read, and due to those inconsistencies.
Moving on, Hope becomes a part of the Utopia X-Men team, and as a result pop's up in various X-related books, the flagship titles like Uncanny X-Men, X-Men, and X-Men Legacy of course, and pretty much in any title there's a mutant as she's being groomed for something big down the line. As has been the theme with this character, she still isn't drawn with any kind of consistency. At this time she also get's her own title, Generation Hope. This was of key interest to what I said before, as many people both familiar with her character and with any level of adoration are also reading this series. But in this her costume goes all over the place, much as it did in the Cable series. Those costume components and weapons love to change here again, as does the actual design on her Second Coming costume for some reason. Hence that bonus one issue Generation Hope costume I included, which seems a popular look for her amongst readers, despite it only being in one comic, and not even looking the same between panels and pages. Likewise, her costume, and her body is different in this series to the next, even when the Schism cross-over happens and despite the story being parallel. This is where I get back fully to her body size because I made an observation here that I did in the Cable books. It seems that in most of her appearances, she is relevant to the character or characters she's standing next to at the time. In Generation Hope, she is teenager/young adult being that she's amongst people of the same age group and physical development. Unless she's next to say Cyclops, Rogue, Sebastion Shaw, ect. Then she scales up a bit (not really any different from your basic camera tricks used in nearly every film). Moreso in other series though. In an issue she's next to Danny Rand and being compared to a character named Fongji, or more Fongji to her, and her body is REALLY scaled down to mach that young girl. Yet she can be next to Spider-man or Steve Rogers and scaled up to their mass (Rogers like Cable being a large guy to compare with). Yet in Wolverine And The X-Men she's Wolverines size, whom we all know to be really small (though sort of his own victim of this same type of interpretation). In Fear Itself she has a completely new look and is pretty big, and I'm not speaking for the physically manifesting powers she copied there either, her body and costume are unique. And so on down the line right to this months issues of Avengers Vs. X-Men, AVX, New Avengers, Avengers, varied X-Men titles, ect. So that's where I was left.
Ultimately I do this for a couple hours in my spare time, between family, friends, pets, home ownership, business, ect. of which these days there isn't much and it's only present do to me being a bit ill lately. Topped on other hobbies as well, and with a rather sizable WIP and request que in progress right now on my hard drive with a December deadline hanging over it. Point being I do these as I see they should be made, with what time I have, and to what extent I can, thinking that if a person doesn't like exactly what they'll see, they can use it as  base and build something from it, and probably something better (please do, as well as the alpha issue if it bothers you) that I in turn get to enjoy myself later. Especially in your case. I see your work and and am kind of blown away by it, and consider you on the level of legends like C6. So I'm certain you can make your own without breaking a sweat. Me, I release them as is given the time open to me and leave them for the next person to work with if they choose (sort of the point of the community effort), so sorry to say I don't have plans to revisit this one. Trust me, if you've seen my page many of the things I've done there are even further from accurate as this one, and almost rarely are they spot physical matches to their comic counterparts (I never adjust specific body part dimensions either, I'm just not that dedicated *shrug*). So I won't be updating this one, sorry. I have another twenty for the week as is, and if their not the ones someone wants, that's cool, there's others out their and that's the beauty of it being a customizable game.

I was just giving you some advice I didn't need a novella to explain the artistic intricacies of a fictional character. Really ain't that serious, bro.
