Quoteyou immediatly noticed that i'm not an inker!

Inker shminker (to be technical) - this is a grand piece of work! It's nice to see you play around with inking, shading and linework, because it really pays off in this image. The composition is dynamic, and there is a good sense of action. The attention to detail is again very impressive, along with the tactile quality of the textures (on the chainmail, shield and maul/mace especially). It also shows how much you like drawing monsters - they look bizarre and creepy, a good mix.

That said, I think the one main nitpick I have is that you should remain vigilant with your proportions. I say this just because the female Mage seems to be a wee bit stumpy in the limbs compared to the trunk of her body. I know a lot of the characters have fantastical proportions, being dwarves and halflings etc (I really like the halfling!), but unfortunately that means it's going to be more of a challenge to give them a sense of realism. So it's a real feat you've achieved this for the most part!  The second, perhaps minor comment is that it might be nice to see some threat coming from the dark behind them (a tentacle, eyes, a claw, Barbara Streisand) to give a reason for the Warrior turning around, away from the mob of approaching mutant creatures. After all, if the Mage's magic is illuminating the area, the background wouldn't be completely black.

Other than that, it's great, I really enjoy what you've done here, and I hope the coloured version is even better!!  :D

I'm sure Dana would have something (very good, I'd wager) to say about this piece.  Brilliant, says I!  I could easily imagine this illustration appearing in the pages of Dragon Magazine or--dare to dream--one of the official rule books.

many thanks again, its very important for me to have yours and other members support.

(p.s. still laughing for that " barbara streisand") :D

Good stuff Naitvalis! You're certainly a keen artist, which is nice to see. I don't have much time, so I'm gonna jump right in and apologise now if there are some mistakes/repetitions.

The detail and composition are great, and the expression on the man's face is whimsical and vacant, which works particularly well for the tone of the piece. There is very much a sense of longing in the picture, whether for a past life or for a fantastical one, and the simple sepia wash-effect contributes to this nicely. It's by no means a photographic image, more a memory cast in the guise of a photograph. The accessories are crisp additions, and though I can tell you spent most of your time on the main figure, I do quite like the unfinished sketchiness of everything from the window outwards - it adds to that questioning of 'is this real or imagined?' I think you need to be careful again with proportions as his head is a tad too large for his shoulders. I also think hiding his right hand behind that sketchy vase (which is an unnecessary addition to the picture) is a bit cheeky, and that the teacup could use a bit more work.

Other than that, it's a lovely piece, and I think you did a grand job. Just don't be afraid to keep pushing the envelope!

thanks for the prescious review!!

These are some nice drawings. I especially like the composition of the second one. I think that if you wanted to cover up the hand , you could just bring the flowers/vase closer to the viewer in the picture plane, like he's standing in front/slightly to the side of it. But that's if you're picky, because it looks fine as-is. The detail in the medals and the cup are nice too :)

insert some censor cause i don't know if nudity is allowed (there is nothing too scandalous but just in case...btw the uncensored version is on deviantart ).
i'm not happy with the centaur's tail and other 1000 things but at least i find this nice.

I like it; however, the black tail on the rider and the black levers protruding from the chests of both rider and centaur strike me as a bit odd.  The big fellow (not to be confused with "the Big Fellah") in the distance seems eager to pull one of those levers...

More seriously, the only two comments I would make--if you are looking for feedback--would be

1. The centaur's tail (which you've already mentioned) and buttocks do not seem to adhere to the typical look of a horse's anatomy.  The tail appears to originate somewhere in the anus, a fact which becomes even more apparent because you have foregrounded it in this piece.

2. IMHO, I think the planets/moons in the sky could use more definition (especially since the seemingly cirrus clouds in the sky do not seem adequate to obliterate the surface details of these heavenly bodies).  Having two bodies in the sky clearly marks this as an alien setting, so why not engage the viewer's imagination more with a clearer view of these planets/moons, even if their surfaces are, in fact, cloud covered?

Nicely done!

Well, unfortunately I'm no longer a member of DA, so I won't be able to comment on the uncensored version.

There are quite a few things I like about this image. The angle you've chosen for the centaur and the girl aren't easy to draw, so I must straight away commend you for challenging yourself. The texture, inking and movement of the hair is done well, as is the grass in the foreground. There's also a sense of light-heartedness about the image, and the poses of the girl and the centaur are certainly jubilant. I also quite like the fact that the centaur has an androgynous look, with a very muscular, masculine body - though evidently female.

From what I can see of the censored parts of the image (beneath the "black levers" and "black tail" :P), I think you need to be very careful about the way you portray breasts. At the moment there is something very comical and artificial about the way they seem almost "stuck on". Don't get me wrong, there probably would be some "side boob" showing (as the kids say these days), but the strange inking and severe line-work make it look as if they're detachable - especially in the case of the centaur. It almost looks as if he/she woke up one morning and thought "Yes, I think I'll wear the cleavage today. Thonk." If you perhaps played with your shading a little here, went for some gradation in tone, and maybe shied away from the bulbous 'breasts are round and always perky' stereotype, it would have given a slightly more tasteful finish.

Also, I must agree with ow_tiobe_sb - keep an eye on that horse anatomy! Maybe have a look at copies of Gericault's sketchbooks for inspiration - he was all about the horses. Seriously. Loved them. Couldn't get enough.

Otherwise, it's great to see you powering on, and I look forward to seeing what pops out of your head next.  :)

As a concept, it certainly has its charm.

I like the vampire girls waving at the 'camera' and the idea they've just been out walking their pet werewolf about town. They give the picture a lot of life, and I think you've posed them quite well. The zombie in the bottom corner again tells me how much you like drawing monsters, and there's a good amount of detail there.

Nevertheless, as you said, it's still very incomplete, and I would like to see a more polished version before I can give you any real feedback. What I will say though is that I think you could play a little more with the normal vs. supernatural elements. Perhaps rather than the gloomy place you've created (with somewhat confusing colouring and an ill-defined background) you could create a really bright, cheerful, relatively normal looking place that is then subverted through the inclusion of vampires, werewolves etc and their... uh... more 'grisly' actions. That is just a suggestion -  otherwise, do keep going with it. Spend some time pondering what you can do to really amplify the 'joke' without going overboard, and then take even more time executing it to the best of your abilities.  :)

many thanks Pre the idea was a sort of postcard, i hate use mouse for coloring thats why i never complete my works sometime( or most time :D). i appreciate your suggest, about background, and is certainly a good one. And you have all the reason when you say i like draw some things like monsters for example, while i lost all the "joy" in colour phase i can add.
thats cause i'm no good at all with colouring softwares, today i have re-fished my watercolours after years...

Actually... it's not. Take another look, on one side is Afghan Ant, Figure Fan, TUE, my av, Podmark, and Aly Cat(?), on the other is C6, GG, Mike, Unko, Gren, and Spud(?). Podmark is the only real Villain in there.

I really like this sketch. It's dynamic, there's a wealth of avatars used (always a hit for me, even without mine being included) and the artwork itself is really well done

Thanks Nait, that's very good of you to think about goopy old me.

Considering you used a mouse to colour it, I think you did a pretty good job! It's a bright, light-hearted piece that really works to emphasize the avatars as individuals. Figure Fan, Podmark, Tomato and Unko all have a lot of personality in their faces, and there's a good amount of movement amongst the characters to help lead your eye across the composition. I also appreciate the fact you've gone all-out on drawing hands, which along with feet are some of the most difficult parts of the body to draw.

Unfortunately, I can't let you get away with using trickery to hide most people's feet/lower bodies: Unko, Podmark, C6 and Mikey are especially noticeable in this regard. In Mikey's case, the odd floating head of Captain Spud(?) is a bit of a cheeky addition to the piece - a throwaway character used to hide some feet! Naughty! And FF's bendy body does the same for Podmark, while GG covers a number of body parts. That said, I'm glad you realised some of your linework was a little incomplete - I see how you coloured spaces where no linework existed (but needed to exist), such as FF's elongated neck, so it's good you picked up on that and tried to fix it.

As usual I like the little details here; the bouncing bullets, the folds of the clothing, and the metallic reflections. I just hope one day you'll save up and get yourself a tablet so we can see you at full game - without the patterned backgrounds!  :P

Final note: Captain Spud's head is a tad... effeminate. Is it Spud?
Title: Re: My draws corner.

to Outcast: thank you pal, maybe i can do a draw  with your avatar to in the future if you like ( no one is safe).

to PreRaphaelite: i always really appreciate the time you dedicate to help all the artists wich post in this section, in do better works, with your detailed reviews.
as you have noticed i am an old cheater in draw, but in this one the only " volountary" "cheeky addition" was captain spud, and i explain it: i have drawned figure fan, but i miss is counterpart enemy...realized it later , so asked my self "and now?" then ive heard that sound "SPUD!" and thats it. i know expecially him looks quite cheeky, but i guess the others looks cheeky enough to the right observer.
Now i think my first error was not to draw a believable "ground"in perspective, so we can see all characters floating, and they look like bit copy-pasted, maybe with a believable ground they can look less cheeky.
anyhow i haved great fun in drawing this and i think ,like you, wich at least "really works to emphasize the avatars as individuals".
one another thing: i fear captain spud himself so i hope he not think he look effeminate to in this piece   .

I think this is quite possibly my favourite picture yet! You've really captured a moment here, with both the cafe setting and the interaction between Juancho and Outcast being spot on. You successfully draw the eye to the centre of the image where all the action is, and there is enough action there to keep the eye interested and moving. Most of all, I'm enjoying the dynamic between the very relaxed battle of brains in the middle of the piece, and the contrasting physical battle in the background.

While I realise the fun 'twist' to the image is that the battle of figurines being duked out by Juancho and Outcast is being reenacted for real outside, for me the interesting bit is that we're given two very different approaches to conflict resolution. In the background we have the traditional 'guns-a-blazing' brawl, while the foreground portrays a simulated battle, waged in the minds of intellectuals rather than through fists and guns. Well, at least it would have been if you'd chosen characters besides Juan and Outcast... intellectuals? What was I thinking...  ;)

The only thing I'd say concerning constructive criticism would be to keep an eye on the scale of the figures in the background in relation to the building behind them. I know some people in the world are too tall to walk through certain doors (I'm definitely not one of them...) but combined with the short lamppost and the small garage door, the building seems a little too mini to be completely believable. Otherwise, excellent job!  :D

Final note: the Minuteman picture in the foreground is a groovy final touch - is it a magazine cover?

Jeez, after a famine of artwork, we're now being inundated! Too much art, too little time to comment!

Good drawing, Nait. The idea is very 'out there' - I don't think I've ever considered Colossus to be a zen monk, or to have painted Wolverine and Sabertooth clashing steel in the background - but it is very effective nonetheless. There's something very tranquil about it, with Colossus meditating alongside the burning incense in the foreground and the almost dreamlike  'action' behind him.

I'm not too sure about the placement of the floating calligraphy, it comes across a tad bit "thrown in there" to fill the background, but I do like the almost Ukiyo-e qualities of the painting(?) behind Colossus; the flatness, simple line work and cropping work well. Most of all I'm enjoying the easiness of the composition, the attention to hands and feet, and the solid weight of Colossus, enhanced with your use of textures and shading on his body/clothing.  :D

You've done the main image beautifully. She looks great. You keep up these studies and your human form drawing will just keep improving. I'm also impressed with how confident your lines are, especially on the hands. I see you had to redo the thigh a few times, but ended up looking very natural.

My only issue comes from lecture after lecture of studying typeface, and that is to avoid hand sketching your letters at the bottom of the image. It is very, very difficult to freehand a typeface and make it look elegant. You did a remarkably good job on it, but even then I'm afraid it looks messy.
Title: Re: My draws corner.
Post by: naitvalis on September 25, 2012, 01:21:16 PM
many thanks Reepicheep!
yes i think the whole picture look messy, unfortunately i have sketched this with a pen, and it was a "fortunate" sketch cause generally i'm even much dirty with lines hehe, in some case i clean all with ink, this is not possible here, and i must try ink it with a light grey stamp from pc.
by the way this is just a sketch and maybe i've posted it too early...but i find some kind of "freshness" in sketchty-draws.

(to all fr members: feel free to message me if you like my style and want something drawnded, maybe we could start a project together, i'll draw for free. )

Ahh..then I'll hold my comments on it until i can see the inked version...becuase with inking the line weight and such will change thus allowing me to see how close you're pushing for Mucha-esqeness.

What an unusual and unique style you have.

It has a certain level of grit to it that I wish I could capture in my own work.

You would be an excellent choice for a person to draw a 'Post-Apocalyptic' world such as that found in the Atomic Knights or Kamandi or a Thundar the Barbarian series with a bit more serious flair.

Your illo from "found the name Doc 01 for that "steam-mad" is crazy good! Every aspect of it was nicely rendered, from the female's costume and position to the foe's design and stance. The overall perspective is very cool and the choice of color was simply awesome.

Overall you show both the signs of a amazing talent that could use a bit of figure direction. My suggestion is to study skeletons and anatomy a bit more. Learn a little more about dynamics and movement. YES... I know exactly how boring it is. I avoided it forever.

In any case your work is very nice here throughout. I love the medieval stuff. a very Dungeons and Dragons feel about them.

Overall I was impressed. I am betting you have the serious capacity to utterly 'WOW' us.

G7

a very basic story background for this hypotetical challenge: earth (new earth dc comics) the year is 2060, the pollution has reached the maximum level of tolerance for humanity, the Whole human race is doomed if don't find another "home", in the chaos of this days billy batson is an old man (when not in captain form) and work  as scientist in a very secret but foundamental project called "valhalla".

You've got a unique style and I like it! That Conan picture is especially cool. The Thor picture looks like you've used the armor from the movies which is cool. I wonder if Thor could beat Captain Marvel/Shazam? It would be a close fight for sure.
