Title: Iron Fist Keyframes
Post by: ghazkul on January 07, 2012, 03:33:31 PM
Hi guys, quick question. I have Gren's Iron Fist mesh, love all the martial arts moves the mesh has in CViewer. however in-game only a very few of them can bew selected. Anyone know how to use them all?

Do you mean moves like melee_2, melee_2_a, melee_2_b, etc?

When you choose a melee, like "melee_2", in the game, the mesh will use the other "melee_2_a, melee_2_b, etc." randomly, so every time he punches, it won't be the same punch (or the same kick, or the same combo).

If you want to specifically assign one of the melee animations that you like, you can always rename it so you can select it. For example, if the mesh has 3 base animations all with a,b,c alternatives, you can take the melee_2_b animation and rename it melee_4 or melee_kick. You can use Nifskope or M25's keyframe transfer program to rename animations. Just be careful that you don't rename an animation to one that already exists because it will overwrite it.

How do you rename them?

I opened the .kf file in Nifskope and blocked the animations that I didn't want, but it made both the character tool and the game crash when I tried to open the character.

I would use M25's Keyframe Transfer Tool. It was specifically designed to transfer, rename, and delete animations, so (at least in the hundreds I've done) it doesn't break the keyframe file. Also, when you say, "blocked the animations" do you mean you did (Right Click->Block->Remove)? If that's the case, I did a little test and it showed that just clicking Remove left a piece of the animation in the file and "broke" the keyframes, forcing CTool to shut down when I tried to open the corresponding mesh. When clicking on Remove Branch, instead, it removed the entire animation and I was able to open the mesh in CTool with no problem. If you have both programs, I would still advise using M25's tool as it is much faster and user friendly for what you want to do.
