Title: seriously raimi what the hell
Post by: deano_ue on December 16, 2011, 08:42:52 PM
ok anyone who knows me, knows i'm a big fan of the green goblin and i will say with full confidence that defoe was a perfect choice for both norman and goblin

hell i even went as far as to defend "aspects" of the costume, but no this has come to light

Meeeeeeehhhh... as much as I hate to say it, I almost understand why they chose NOT to go that route... true, it would have been a better choice, but you have to remember that we were still in an era where the X-men costumes could not possibly be practical in film, and when the very idea of a Thor movie was patently ridiculous. Green Goblin's costume was therefore taken a much more practical, if slightly bizzare, route with the green body armor. And like it or not, as cool as that animatronic head is(and how much it would have added to the performance), it would have been too stark a contrast with the power ranger body armor.

I'm not saying I like or agree with it... given my way, I see no bucking reason for superhero costumes not to be AT LEAST as comic-accurate as the Marvel Entertainment films. But back then, superheroes were still coming into their own... no one knew how far they could go and still have audiences accept it.

That would have been cool.
Well they'll eventually revisit the Goblin in a future movie, so maybe next time.

dude the new movies are 110% ultimate based so if we do get him expect hulk goblin

tom but if they went with this design with wouldnt have got the range suit, look at the neck its based on this concept

(http://www.milesteves.com/gallery/d/1250-3/Green-Goblin-Design.jpg) its seems more of a muscle suit mixed with techno

i just can't get the idea of defoes voice coming outta that mask

I liked organic web shooters... and honestly I would love a biological "green goblin" so long as he is not as hulked out as he is the ultimate universe.

I would prefer something more wiry, creepy, like the singer of mortiis.

I have often wondered what fandom would have thought if Raimi would have given us the Ultimate Hulk Goblin.  I think it could have been done better than Power Ranger Goblin, however I didn't mind what Raimi chose.

the same way they will react with web giving it to us at some point with this serious. hopefully with pitchforks

hulk goblin goes against everything that made the character great and if they're smart they will go with classic rather than just repeat themselves

amazing spidey= villain who is a scientist who takes a potion turns into a giant green monster=lizard
amazing spidey 2= villain who is a scientist who takes a potion turns into a giant green monster=ultimate GG

no thanks

That's pretty neat TUE, thanks for sharing it.  I think that the power-armored Goblin worked pretty well on film, but that mask is pretty awesome.

Also, the new movies being based on the Ultimates means I've got even less interest in them than before.

Having gone back and re-read Ultimate Spiderman up to the magneto war thing, while I'll admit Hulk-goblin and some of the other nonsense was silly, Ultimate Spiderman was(I cannot attest to "is" ATM, haven't read in awhile) actually a very good book, and it added some really cool ideas to the franchise. In my opinion, comparing USM to the rest of the Ultimate universe does it a supreme disservice, because while everyone else was out trying to be "X-treme! Ultimate! YAR!" USM has always felt like a distillation of what made Spider-man a great character in the first place. It's still a Bendis book, so there are flaws and inconsistencies, but this is Bendis at his best.

Does this mean that I have any more hope for Amazing because it pulled from Ultimate Spidey? No. Every major adaption of Spiderman since USM came out has pulled from it (sometimes successfully and sometimes not) so them doing it here means absolutely nothing. The ONE thing that will put me in the theaters for this film is the fact that I feel the same way about it as I did about First Class (ZOMG this movie will suck, the costumes look bizarre, the advertising is garbage, it's just a cheap prequel/reboot, etc)... and that movie was awesome.

Well that video was about a trillion times better than the craptacular power ranger Goblin we got in the first film! Thanks for posting UE.

Sadly Hollywood will totally screw up any new incarnation of the Green Goblin in the fantastically unnecessary rebooted Spider-Man movies. Of that...I have no doubt.

I'm going to dissent.

Yes, the mask in this screen test actually looks like the Green Goblin mask from the comic books.  But let's remember that it's supposed to be a mask, not makeup and not f/x.  I would not find it believable that Norman Osborne could or would put something like that on to become the Green Goblin.  So then you're left with shapechanging Norman Osborne which is really not true to the original.

The mask we got could have been better, but at least it was recognizable as a mask.
