DC Universe Online sees 120,000 new PC players less than 48 hours after going free-to-play (http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/11/03/dc-universe-online-sees-120000-new-pc-players-less-than-48-hours-after-going-free-to-play/)
Just a warning, PC side is having issues, but the PS3 servers is handling the influx of players well.
USPS3 server has been having issues for most of the day. Long que lines...6000+...just to get connected then disconnected 15 mins later. It's offline for maintenance right now.
Ok, not to make excuses for SOE, but I suspect they're in a bit over their heads.
Forget 120,000 ... around noon it topped 320,000. And the weekend just started...

Well, I was planning on joining, but I'll put it off for now. I have no desire to wait in long lines or experience problems like this. I can play CoH just as well, and they did not have these problems when they switched over.
I'm sure they'll get it figured out in a week or three. It does look like fun, although not so much fun that I'd sink a subscription fee into it, so F2P is a good option for me.

Keep in mind that this is DC, so a LOT of people want to try it out. I remember when f2p started for CO it didnt have nearly as much people as this does right now. That's no excuse for them, however, they should've anticipated it.
Not CO, CoH. Same genre, huge difference in playerbase size.
I decided to try this and when I did get in, it was loads of fun. I liked it better than COH or Champions. I will wait till they get things sorted out before I commit though. I don't want to wait in line for hours just to play.

I know :) Just took a guess fom my personal experience with CO, no facts :)
It's usually the situation with popular IP, people want to experience it, without knowing what it is. But , like I said, they should've resolved these problems by now, I'm one angry DCUO subscriber right now lol.
CoH on the other hand was slammed with new players too, I think even more than DCU, but actually ran better than it did before it went F2P, due to all the constant software and hardware upgrades they put it though. In fact, some of the playerbase got a little frustrated by the sheer amount of upgrading they did, but it all went over very very smoothly in the end.
They should have kept the different servers instead of making "Super Servers". For the first time since I bought this game, I had to wait in a queue of 3000. It went fast, but I was surprise.
They combined servers together or something? Doesn't seem like a bright move before a F2P conversion. CoH actually opened a new server and cause some game zones to split into multiple instances more quickly, both of which have probably helped.
But I'm sure they will fix it eventually. It sounds like fun and once they have the problems ironed out I will try it. Unfortunately for them, they are going to lose a lot of interested players because of this, although like me, many might come back later.
The problem with the Mega servers tech , they never really had the player base to stress test in pre-f2p.
I suppose I can see the point there. That's okay, they'll get it fixed eventually.
Wow, as it is, if you do anything that requires a loading screen, it's a 50/50 chance of a lock up. I can't complain though, as I am a free to play player, but it sure doesn't encourage me to become a paying customer.
After picking my character I was getting locked on the loading screen too. I can't find the post on the DCUO forums, but basically there is a small settings file for each character of yours that you can delete. When the game re-launches the file is referenced if found and recreated if not present. This file is becoming corrupted. Delete it and once you make it through the queue (5k+ over the weekend!!), your zone should load.
