Title: Xmen Destiny
Post by: captmorgan72 on September 27, 2011, 01:43:53 PM
I have never heard of this one and got a email telling me it's been released. I googled it and checked it out. I can see why I never heard of it. It looks really bad. Anyone hear of this game?

Yeah I've been following it since it was announced. I like the concept and it's written by Mike Carey who I've really enjoyed on the X-Men books, but the game doesn't look very impressive. Very curious to see how it turns out.

Graphics are kinda bleah from the trailers I've seen, though if it's got really good gameplay and story I can forgive that.

There's a guy posting a playthrough online.  Since there's no demo, I'm planning on watching a few parts of this before I make a decision.

X-men Destiny has a VERY VERY VERY disappointing marketing campaign. It says a lot that there're only 3 official vignette trailers online, and there was little to no talk about the game for months. I finally saw my first TV commercial of it last night after 10 o'clock. I was surprised the game was coming out soon. That's never happened to me when it comes to an X-game. Very stark comparison from the XML - MUA2 days.

Hmm, after watching that link that GlitchGirl posted, it looks like this game could be fun. I might have to retract what I said. Sure the graphics are not super, but they are passable. I like that you can wear the costumes of all the different characters and take on a bit of their power. It looks like you can create a unique mutant. I also like that you can choose between the Brotherhood or Xmen. Bortherhood all the way for me.

I've only seen the trailer so far, it would be nice to create a unique mutant. More power sets to choose and combine would be great.

I picked it up today(didn't even know it was out, grah) and have enjoyed what I've played so far... I do think it's a little easy, but I'm playing on "new mutant", so... it's supposed to be? Either way, this game is at least entertaining enough to tide me over until AC comes out.

Something to note: from everything I'm reading, there's  only about 5-8 hours of gameplay in here, which is pretty light for a $60 game.

I redboxed it yesterday for $2.11. I played it through twice today, once as a x-man and another as the brotherhood. Both with different characters and powers. I really enjoyed it and can't understand why IGN gave it a 1 1/2 stars. I thought it was pretty decent, despite the bugs. Certainly not worth $60 but absolutely worth a rental. It was pretty short too, about 7 hours or so.

Maybe that's why they gave it a 1 1/2.  I want to play the game, but I am not going to spend $60 on it.

Yeah, I'm ok with shelling out the money (primarily because I had a $20 gift card and there isn't really anything else this year I'd have gotten from gamestop... getting AC from Best Buy for Robin) but this one's better off waiting until the price lowers and/or getting it used. I bought it yesterday evening and even including my 9 hour work day + sleep I'm about halfway through my second go through.
