Title: original marvel ultimate alliance

has anyone seen this? it was cel shaded in development.

Yeah, cel-shaded was really in fashion after Jet Grind Radio and Wacky Races came out on the Dreamcast.  Developers started abusing it to death on every licensed property.  I'm glad most games have started to move past that phase.

It does look good in some instances like in tmnt games and this one iOS game called Samurai

But yeah I didn't really like the cel shading in the XML games

X-Men Legends II tried that effect.  Personally I though the end result just looked muddy and sloppy and didn't really fit with the look of the prerendered cutscenes.  I'm glad they ditched it when they did. 

While the effect CAN be done well (Viewtiful Joe for example), it doesn't work so hot when the player's proxy is comparatively small on the screen.
