Title: Dead Xbox 360=Getting PS3
Post by: captmorgan72 on January 25, 2011, 01:10:40 AM
I thought I had it fixed. My Xbox 360 died awhile back (three red lights) and I fixed it using a guide I bought online. I was really happy about it, especially since I could play for hours and the Xbox would barely get warm. Yesterday my games started freezing, the screen would turn blue, the screen turned pixelated and I would get the three red lights again, not necessarily in that order. I would have to reboot the system and try again only to get the same results. So, I decided it's time to get a PS3. I need recommendations for games to fill my GameQ for GameFly. I am dying to play God of War 3 so that's already in but what else?

I don't have a PS3 but I heard the Resistance 1 & 2 are good as well as Heavy Rain.  If you're feeling creative then try Little Big Planet 1 & 2.  As for your 360, I would email that guy and get your money back.

The uncharted games are incredible, inFAMOUS is really incredible too, and yeah Heavy Rain is wicked.
But those are just some exclusives...of course there are the assassins creed games, vanquish, batman etc. To keep you going, hehehe.

I would add Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots to the list. Its a PS3 exclusive and and amazing game too.

Why didn't you return it to Microsoft?  If it happened within 3 years of purchase, they send you another Xbox.

Anyways, I just picked up a PS3 myself.  I've been playing DCUO which has been good fun.  I'm looking forward to playing Infamous 1 and 2, Uncharted 1 and 2, Little Big Planet and a few others.  I plan on going with my 360 for most games but sometimes PS3 outdoes the 360 version in terms of features, so I'll choose game-by-game.

I bought it over three years ago.

Welcome to the world of PS3!

Some good recommendations in this thread already, but I want to echo the love for the Uncharted games that's already been mentioned.  The first one still looks incredibly good now even though it was released in (what?) 2007, and the second one is eye-droppingly gorgeous.  Both have cracking storylines and great gameplay too.  Mainly shooty, but with some platforming and puzzles too.

We could give you more focused advice if we knew what sort of thing you liked, for example.

Heavy Rain:  a cross between a game and an interactive movie.  Incredibly immersive (although sometimes marred by the occasional ropey voice actor) and a branching storyline, so depending on how well you do, you can have anything from a completely happy ending with all your characters surviving and saving the day to a disaster where all your chars die and the killer goes free. I've only the one play=through on this, but will be trying again once i get it back from my brother.  Some people might not like the control system, and the pace can be slow at time, but I thought it was great

Demons Souls:  swords and sorcery territory here.  Graphically, this game doesn't push any envelopes, but it is very atmospheric.  Very difficult game though, and you will die A LOT.  And when you die, you can lose a lot of progress.  But even so it never feels cheap or unfair.  And some of the bosses are immense, and you have a great feeling of achievement when you take them down.  Having said that, I'm on a bit of a lull with this one right now.  I need to get back into it properly so I'm fully in tune with the gameplay and controls, and then that Flamelurker is going down!

Valkyria Chronicles:  A turn-based tactical war game set in a parallel Europe.  Its done in a slightly Japanese RPG style (I'm not generally a fan of manga or anime etc but I liked this), and the strategy is quite deep.  Once you've settled on your squad of soldiers you'll find yourself becoming quite attached to them too.

Also, are you only looking for PS3 exclusives, or just good games in general?  'Cause then there's your Assassin Creeds and Mass Effects and Bioshocks and Fallouts and whatnot.

I love how generally awesome everyone agrees those games are... Heh,
One overlooked game I like is The Saboteur. Its pretty much Assassins Creed meets GTA in Nazi occupied France, with one really cool feature, the game is in black and white until you liberate sections of Paris, then they brighten up with color

Umm,Doctor, 360 has a heartbeat. Well, I guess I called time of death a little to early. I went through the repair videos a second time and discovered that I failed to complete the last and most important step. I saw the green lights and assumed all was well in the last steps of the fix the first time and put her back together. What I needed to do was let her overheat (with fan out) until the two red lights appear and then let her bake for about two additional minutes. This is to melt the solder jimmies under the processors. Then your suppose to take out the motherboard and screw down the heatsinks really tight. Then let her cool for an hour before putting back together and powering on. I did this last night and so far all seems good. But, then all seemed good the first time too for about a month.

Regardless, still getting a PS3. To answer your question Phantom, I have played most of the games you have mentioned. So yes, I am looking for PS3 exclusives.

after my 4th xbox RROD'd >.> I got a PS3, and been extremely happy with it for the last 3 years, tho I always kept my rock band gear around incase I ever decided to get another 360, my wife bought me one for xmas just gone, with the Kinect and a load of games, my conclusion, PS3 is where it's at for serious gaming, but if you're gonna have a party, get the 360 out :D
