Was just watching police squad all morning since I heard the news.
Pretty funny that his acting career didn't really take off until he was well into his fifties.
Still, an amazing comedian and even funnier straight man.

His comedy career didn't take off until he was in his 50s.  But prior to that he was a well respected journeyman actor known for playing no-nonsense by-the-books types with the occasional leading man role.  It was exactly because of being the no-nonsense type that he was cast in Airplane! - he was spoofing himself.

He will be missed, and don't call him Shirley

The media ratings and research system will never be the same again.  Neither will big buildings with patients...
