Whoa whoa.....Let's not jump the gun here. Do you think they're going a bit too fast?
What's too fast? Iron Man 2 made $620+ million worldwide last summer; announcing a sequel to come out in
3 years seems quite reasonable to me. Sure, the Avengers is in there too, but it remains to be seen how much Iron Man/Tony Stark will actually be in that film.
Too fast meaning: Hey you guys still have 3 movies to work on/ promote. If they start promoting IM3, people are going to start looking forward to that more and forget about Thor & Cap; or is it just me thinking like that?
Think it's just you at the moment. They're not promoting anything; they're announcing that in 2+ years, Ironman 3 will be on the big screen. This is just like we knew about Thor, Cap, and Avengers during the time Ironman 2 was in production and heading into theaters. They have 7 months to promote Thor hardcore.
I think it is a little too fast, but I'm a person with little money and time, and I would hate super hero movies quickly if I watched nothing but super hero movies. I finally watched the second Fantastic Four, and I'm a much bigger fan of them than I am of Iron Man.
Works for me, but then I'm really pumped about ALL the marvel superhero movies.
Maybe we'll get a movie version of JLA/Avengers by 2015 or so..
I don't think it's too fast...In fact, movie studios used to crank out great film after great film back in the 30s and 40s...Sometimes up to ten or so films a year. Movie-making now seems slower than a snail.

News today is that Jon Favreau has passed on directing Iron Man 3. (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=29884) Very disappointing. :(
But not surprising given his relationship and comments about Marvel recently (especially after Iron man 2).
Smart move by Favreau. Like most superhero movie franchises, the third film turns out to be a stinker. He saw the pattern and jumped ship before he gets dragged down with it.
After Iron Man 3 tanks...Marvel can quickly get started on the new Iron Man franchise reboot...with Justin Bieber as the cool new young hip Tony Stark! Now who wouldn't want to see that!

There will never be a JLA/Avengers movie unless it's animated. And even then, don't get your hopes up.
That's a real shame. I'm not sure that we'll see a good Iron Man without Favreau. He did a fantastic job with the first two films. I'm truly disappointed to hear that. What was the deal between him and Marvel?
I hope they keep milking these superhero movies....I have to think ahead to my retirement some 20 years from now and watching TCM (which is starting to get quite interesting). If I can watch these new super hero movies when i'm old I can tell my grand kids how their new 4D versions stink compared to the 2D and 3D classics....darn whippersnappers!
I'm with the very disappointing crowd. But if the writing team is still good it could still work depending on the new director.
I'll wait and be disappointed when I hear who've they've hired to replace Favreau. Marvel could get someone awesome or someone awful, and no director of any talent is going to stay with a franchise perpetually, so Favreau leaving isn't a huge shock to me.

When you think about it, they don't really need Pepper Potts for an Avengers movie. When did Pepper have anything to do with the Avengers in the comics?
So why budget for a big-name actress for an unnecessary role? Unless they brought her in for a cameo, but that doesn't sound like it's going to happen.
If they don't bring her back for IM3, THEN I'll be disappointed.

Yes, but in the idea that many people would be seeing the Avengers based on the fact that they loved Ironman, many movies fans will wonder why Pepper Potts, the person who essentially ran Tony Stark's life from head to toe, has simply vanished in thin air. However, i do understand the comic side of it.
I disagree. People will not wonder where Pepper Potts is if it's covered in the movie. And for that matter, it was covered in Iron Man 2. Pepper is running the day to day of Stark Enterprises while Tony is off with the Avengers. I suspect she will be referenced in some similar manner. Probably an exchange between Iron Man and Black Widow.
As for Iron Man 3, while I am sad to see Jon Favreau leave, I am optimistic that Marvel will not make the same mistake that they made with bringing in Brett Ratner on X3. (And Ratner was only brought in because the original director left the project and they needed a guy who could so something quick with no regards to quality.)

Sorry, didn't make my point clear. Marvel would not make the same mistake with Iron Man 3 that Fox made with X3. And the Ratner debacle happened because Matthew Vaughn had to bail for personal reasons and they had already scheduled a release date. My feelings on Ratner are well noted elsewhere, I think.
