Haven't seen a topic on this so I thought I might as well start one

Seems that there wont be multiple origins this time just a human named Hawke. The dialogues will be similar to Mass effect this time, with full voice over for main character.
Not sure what to think of it tbh, Bioware has yet to dissapoint me, but seems that this will be a bit more linear than the first game. Combat also looks a lot more action-y too. Nevertheless I`m still looking forward to this.
I actually got bored with Dragon Age pretty quick. Didn't even bother beating it. Sold the game and bought Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2
not really all that interested in playing this new one.
I'm looking forward to it.
The Ultimate Edition of Dragon Age is coming out later this month and I'm planning to get it. It includes the original game, the expansion and all the DLC. I never got the expansion or any of the DLC so it should be a good deal.
I'm interested, but a little turned-off by some of the dumbed-down changes. They seem to be trying to make it Mass Effect 2, fantasy-style, and I don't need that.
Mass Effect 2 was enjoyable, but hardly even an RPG any more. I'm sick of good games getting "streamlined" and made more action-oriented so that FPS frat boys might find them interesting.
I gotta say, I'm all pro the mass effectesque system. Around about Neverwinter Nights 2, I've been sick to the teeth of RPG turn-based fighting systems (I loathe Final Fantasy, for example. But thats a more extreme case). The only thing that kept me through Dragon Age 1 was the plot.
So I'm pretty excited here.
Am not happy with the idea of being just a human however the potential to import my former character is still got me interested..unless they get rid of that too!

I hear a lot of people saying that, but I think that DA:O was a nice balance between RPG and action unlike KOTOR which had a bit too much RPG elements, and Mass Effect had a lot of action (especially in second game).

Actually you don't import your character, you import choices you made during Origins and Awakening. Your character from Origins is a historical figure in the sequel.

Hmmm...not so sure about that one then...I really had wanted to take my elvish rouge into this new one...makes me really questionable about it now.
I really enjoyed Dragon Age 1 because it allowed for multiple origins and this made it a great game for people like me who spam out characters like crazy (I have never played an RPG only once, I LOVE making 3 to 10 characters).
Now I'm not a fan of transfering characters (the first levels when you are poor and dont have fancy Items are always my favorite) so I'm not bothered by that but I do wish you had more character creation options.
I'm still wondering if Hawke (the human male/female main character of Dragon Age 2) can even be other classes than fighter. Within the Dragon Age setting, being a mage would require a fairly different origin than fighter/rogue, and without jumping through some convoluted hoops, it seems implausible.
I'd be very surprised if Hawke is locked to one class. Even Mass Effect had separate classes.
In the gameplay video you can actually see other class selections.
There are mage, rogue and warrior available, hopefully there will be some more variety added later.
They kind of lost me on the XP. I am not too excited for this one.

Convoluted hoops to make them all share one origin it is then. I guess that's better?
Nah, they'd surely recognise the diversity of the first game with its alternative starting options was a real winner. I reckon it'll show through again.
If they didn't, it would lose a massive part of what made the first dragon age so special as well as replayable - the feeling of everything being different, people reacting to you differently because of where you come from.

My understanding is that it is definitely only one origin. Also the game takes place over a full decade. So you'll be jumping forward in time every so often in the plot. The world will shape itself based on your imported decisions from Origins and Awakening and the decisions you make within DA2.
The classes will be mage, rogue, and warrior again. Also Hawke will be fully voiced like Sheppard in Mass Effect.
I expect the game will be much tighter in terms of plot. It sounds like the game is going to be fairly similar to Mass Effect 2.
I'm really looking forward to it, but I it will be shift from the first one.
I LOVE Bioware games. KOTOR, Jade Empire, and the Mass Effect games are among my top favorites I've ever played.
But I never played Dragon Age.
I was really looking forward to it, but for some reason, whenever I watch gameplay footage, it looks so...boring. From a purely gameplay perspective, is it any fun? Or does most of the fun merely come from the role playing aspect? Reason I ask is because 1)I love Bioware games, and 2)the Ultimate edition is coming out soon. Perfect time to buy it. But not if it will bore me
Neverwinter Nights was fun back in the day, but I didn't like 2 (mostly from a technical standpoint. Game was practically unplayable).
Anyways, can someone compare it to Bioware's other recent RPGs?
It's more KOTOR than Mass Effect (I've never played Jade Empire). I did find it less exciting to play than Mass Effect but it's still a great game. If you enjoyed KOTOR you'll probably like DA.
Dragon Age had its downs, but it's the only game that I've ever been compelled to play through twice simply because of the different ways the major arcs could turn out (depending on your choices). And the different origins and classes also added a lot of fun.

I honestly preffer it to both KOTOR and Mass Effect (both excellent games). Like I said earlier in the topic, it has a nice balance of rpg and action elements, with excellent story and great replayability.
Honestly the only flaws of Dragon Age is that it felt a little slow despite everything (getting from A to B could be a pain) and the character design choices where more limited than your story choices. That said a great game, but I'm less optimistic about the sequel.
Which is brutal since I hoped that the great sales that it had would spawn more overhead tactical 3d rpg's and war games. A dragon Age Style engine would be great for freedom force, X-Com, Jagged alliance or some new Intellectual property.
