I was in a Kansas City area Walmart not long ago when I was on vacation and saw the same thing. Of course, this was the same Mega Walmart that has only one spot for Starcraft 2 the after release and thus had no copies and seemed generally oblivious to why that was a stupid thing.
My daughter got my copy of FF1 for me for Father's Day 2003 (I think). I'm pretty sure it was something like that price. What year is it where you are? Have you been hanging around with a guy who wears a 20 foot scarf or flies a 1960s police call box?
The last time I saw either FF game on a shelf, which I'd estimate was at least 3 years ago, it was in a jewel case for around $12.
