I've been curious, how many of us read newly released comics?
I think I've covered all the obvious responses but if I missed something chime in below.
Feel free to talk about what you buy, or why you don't below.
I wait until I feel like picking up TPBs, they keep better and I can read a whole story since even a TPB is like a 20 minute read, a single comic is like 3 minutes. Even then I just keep up with Captain America and Secret Six and pick up the occasional interesting book.
I'm going to subscribe to Marvel Digital comics eventually.
I buy new comics every month, although I've only recently got back up to having a decent repertoire. After DC canceled every book I was buying (and I'm not exaggerating), and I stopped buying from the big two, I had a hard time finding anything decent to read. I've finally found a good set of books, though, with Atomic Robo, Project Superpowers, and Black Terror. I'm also reading Joe the Barbarian, but I've got a backlog of those. Apparently the new G.I. JOE books are excellent, but since I'm way behind, I'll get it in TPB before I start buying it regularly. The same goes for Astro City, since its spotty production made me miss some. That's generally my pattern.
I'll also be picking up the Rocketeer book when it comes out, and I'll definitely check out these new Stan Lee designed characters. Other than that, I occasionally collect classic comics from the big two, in TPB's when they've been released that way.
Yes I do! Although I've been trimming my pull list every month for almost a year now. Either because the title no longer interests me or I've switched to buying trades.
I've already said my piece about DC numerous times. But, at least Brightest Day looks like it's getting better. Secret Six is one of the titles I switched to TPB. The only other two titles I'm getting are GLC and GL. There are some upcoming titles that do interest me, like the new Superboy and THUNDER Agents books.
As for Marvel, I've been dropping books at a rapid pace with them. Secret Warriors, Cap, and FF are the only books I'm consistently picking up. Everything else is a game time decision.
I don't what it is exactly, and maybe it isn't just one thing. But, I'm caring less and less about the big two. Eh, their loss is indie comic's gain.
Do I read comics: Yes!
Do I pick up any of the new ones: No
I guess I'm old and kinda picky when they change heroes or stories around.
Example: Batman getting a new Robin (I'm good with that) Spider-man pass getting wiped to save Aunt May (What The....)
So I haven't picked up anything new in years because I'm worried that I'm not going to like what I read. That, plus the price.
Yes, although I've cut back a lot due to finances. I mostly read indy stuff and reprints.
Yep, I still get new comics. Gotta support the "Brick & Mortar" stores, y'know?
Currently I`m only reading Batman, and mostly through trades.
I tend to put my trades on the shelf in chronological order, which is not always easy.
I read the new books as they come out, however I do buy the trades if they cover a storyline that I either don't have all the issues for or just enjoyed as a whole and I don't want to have to dig out all the individual issues to read through again.
I would if I were employed, but even when I was working, I was buying fewer and fewer new comics a month.
I read about 4 or 5 new comics in a month (Cap. America, Atlas, Legion and Adventure Comics and some mini-series) and then I read a lot of older comics.
New stories are becoming more and more boring, I can't stand the "Let's make a new event, kill character1 and resurrect character 2" every 2 weeks.
Not recently.
I dropped all the titles I was reading at the beginning of the year due to financial reasons and to the fact that there really isn't a good comic store near me. The nearest one I am aware of is about an hour drive away.
However, before that, I was only reading the Batman and Detective Comics titles and a couple of others.
I'll probably start getting some of the trade paperbacks eventually. I definitely plan to finish the Transmetropolitan series either via the trades or individual issues at some point.
I do plan to get the issue of Batman Confidential that my friend Steve Scott drew which comes out in October.
I renewed my subscription to THOR!
Very rarely.
However, with John Byrnes' Next Men starting up again...I'll have to check out my LCS more often.
I'm faithful bought comics from my LCS even if there isn't anything I really want to read but the comics I usually purchase are Avengers (though I dislike all except for Children's Crusade and Academy), Uncanny X-Men (despite not being a huge fan of that title), Batman and Robin, and Brightest Day. I'm probably dropping Batman and Robin and going to start picking up Wonder Woman. JMS hasn't convinced me it is a good title yet but it has promise.
I buy Marvel Adventures: Super Heroes and Marvel Adventures: Spider-Man, and then anything written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. Right now that's only the Thanos Imperative. I also buy any Captain America comic no matter how dreadful or good it looks.
Most of my $ goes to Essentials and Showcase Presents, and Golden Age reprints.
Oh, and I'll pick up Next Men, as well. Its a really good sci-fi story.
Sadly, aside from the Invincible trades I haven't bought a comic book in years.
