Title: Starcraft 2 just one day away
Post by: captmorgan72 on July 27, 2010, 12:20:08 AM
Is anyone looking forward to this? I sure am. I remember playing Starcraft for hours and hours. I traded sleep for this game when it came out way back when.

I just wish I still lived with my college roommates.....we had some great battles with SC1 and beer.

I'm really excited for the game, but I'm not going to pick it up.  I have the first one, but didn't finish it.  I'll play the fist one again before I pick up the second one.

I'm waiting for my $100 Walmart gift card to arrive in the mail. Redeemed my Captital One points. About two weeks to go. JeyNyce, after you played it for a bit, let me know how it is.

If I wasn't on vacation, I'd already have it.  Will try to grab it on the way back home so I don't miss the chance to play it on the weekend.

You have to setup a Battlenet account, which is annoying, but they are trying to be like steam as if you want you can download the client instead of using the DVD.  Haven't really got in to it, but so far the story line is good.  Here's one of the first reviews I found on it.  It contain spoilers:

Just snagged it on the way home from the airport and am installing now.  I have 2 buddy keys, if anyone wants to try the game before buying it.

EDIT:  Dang that thing takes FOREVER to install, even from the DVD.  It's fun so far, though.  Love the atmosphere and plot so far.  The maps are a lot more alive than before and makes the whole setting come alive more.  Definitely looking forward to playing this some more.

EDIT 2:  My buddy keys are now gone to two of our community members.  Sorry if you wanted to try it out as well.

Hey Cat, what kinda setup do you have? The main menu will not fit on my screen so I can't even select anything. Also, is it really necessary to have service pack 3? My bud warned me not to download this as it messed up his comp awhile back. Not sure if my system is good enough, tell me what you think.

Athlon 64 x2 4800+
2 Gigs Ram
SB X-Fi
ATI Radeon HD 3850 512MB

It's good to install SP3.  Windows will no longer support anything with SP2 or lower install.

Ok, installed Service Pack 3 and updated graphic driver but the menu will still not fit on my screen.

Even so, you will probably have to manually set the resolution if you have a widescreen, or part of the action will be offscreen.

Looking to upgrade for better performance. My current video card is a Radeon HD 3850 512MB AGP. I am looking at this

How much of an improvement do you think this will give me for Starcraft 2?

From what I'm reading online, you won't see much of a performance boost, if that's what you're looking for.  It will use less power and it handles AA better than the card you have now.

That's kinda what I thought. Thanks for your input Jey.
