Title: The Power Cosmic
Post by: Shogunn2517 on June 30, 2010, 07:07:09 AM
Okay, now that I have a fairly complete set of Galactus' Hearlds, I've been building newer ones and revisiting ones I've already done.  One thing I'm trying to put my finger on is the effects of the Power Cosmic and characters with the Power Cosmic.  What kind of attributes to give them, power-levels, etc.  From what I'm seeing, they are of varying strength levels and durability.  I've seen some places where they can lift from 40 to 50 tons to well over 100.  I've seen them described as simply more durable to nearly indestructable.  I know some might be different than others but does anyone use any constance in their characters with the Power Cosmic?  Or does anyone only use the "Power Cosmic" attribute?

Usually I give my Heralds 6 or above in strength and at least 7 in endurance. I also give them the Cosmic Awareness attribute and Invulnerable 05 or Physical Resistance. That makes them pretty tough. I also make their attacks pretty strong. I also give them a Passive Defense that has at most 17% (Rare) to absorb all Physical attacks (everything except Mystical and Mental). This usually makes them pretty hardy and they can usually put up a fight against my higher tier characters such as Thor and Superman, but not Thanos or Galactus.

According to http://marvel.com/universe, here's what each of the Heralds have in terms of power (based on Fan-votes):

If you go back to the older stories where the Silver Surfer appears, you will see that the Power Cosmic is pretty much like magic.  It can do anything.  There is one issue of his first series where he creates life in a lifeless land.  Let your imagination run wild.

I use versions of the Power Cosmic attribute for most of the heralds. I made some minor adjustments to the original attribute and named it Power Cosmic (greater). I also created another attribute called Power Cosmic (lesser). Although all the heralds share many of the same powers, they're not all equal.

Power Cosmic (greater): cosmic awareness, flier, fast flier, invulnerable (10), transmutator, and power reserve

Power Cosmic (lesser): cosmic awareness, flier, fast flier, and power reserve

With only 5 attribute slots, you really have to take advantage of combo attributes in building these guys. I've also created combos specifically for some of the heralds.
Airwalker: earth control and magnetic (also uses Power Cosmic (lesser))
Firelord: cosmic awareness, flier, fast flier, flame control, and transmutator
Nova (Frankie Raye): flame control and immortal (also uses Power Cosmic (greater))
Red Shift: environmental control (full), magnetic, and invulnerable (10)
Terrax: cosmic awareness, flier, fast flier, earthcontrol, and invulnerable (10)

Strength Levels:
Airwalker, Fallen One, Firelord, and Nova II: 6
Red Shift, Terrax: 7
Detroyer, Morg, Silver Surfer, Stardust: 8

All have some sort of Invulnerability and/or Passive Defense.

No pun intended, but from what I can gather and anyone can confirm: all hearlds are NOT created equal?  The Power Cosmic has varying effects?  Not simply in regards of make-up, but endurance, strength and invulnerabilities?

In short, yes. I believe the Power Cosmic really just enhances the powers a Herald already has by a vast amount of power.

But The Silver Surfer was just a bald guy before he became herald, wasnt he?

As for the various heralds, do you guys have them at uber powered (IE, Thor or Hulk) or around levels that allow lesser heroes to mix it up with them, like say Iron Man level.Because I gotta tell you, trying to make all of them super-duper powerful makes them kinda boring, and theyre such interesting characters, for the most part.

Yeah, that's true. I don't really know what the Power Cosmic bestow upon it's wielders other than a fraction of Galactus' power (which is possibly immeasurable).

As for me, I make my Heralds strong enough to pose a threat to my higher-tier characters in a one-on-one fight or a group of mid-tier characters (like 2 or 3), but they can still go down with some tactics and careful planning. The only characters that I make that may be a bit overpowered are the characters of virtually unlimted abilities such as Galactus or Eternity. But even them can be defeated by a group of 3-4 high tier heroes.

That's the thing.

From what I can understand, Galactus gave his hearlds the Power Cosmic so they can not only find viable planets but to defend Galactus from any planetary defenses while he's feeding, which means, logically they should be able to take on entire armies.  If that's not uber powered, then I don't know what is.

Like I said earlier, I'm looking at my hearlds.  I originally had them ALL "superman"-level characters.  From all that I've read now, not only do they vary, but some such as the Silver Surfer and Morg are two of the strongest and most invulnerable.  One thing I've seen with most of them in terms of their invulnerability is "is nearly invulnerable(impervious) to most forms of physical harm".  That very well can be interpreted how you wish.  In the end, it's your game.  IMO, I make thes "superman"-level characters with mostly 50 Invulnerability, but it don't make it boring because they're likely going against characters of equal strength that overcome the invulnerability.

When I read: "The Surfer possesses tremendous physical strength, the exact limits of which are unknown. The Silver Surfer can lift (press) far in excess of 100 tons effortlessly and when further augmenting his strength using the power cosmic it reaches incalculable levels."  I can't justify making him as strong as the Minuteman or Man-Bull.

When i read: "The Silver Surfer's silvery "skin" was designed to easily withstand the rigors of deep-space travel, and thus far, it has proven to be virtually indestructible. In fact, his entire body was made highly resistant to injury and he is thus invulnerable to most types of physical harm."  Of course I leave room for that "virtually" and "most", which means other high-level characters/attacks can harm him, but just not a hail of bullets.  that shouldn't take out the Silver Sufer.
