Title: Alpha problems
Post by: daglob on May 28, 2010, 01:22:01 AM
Okay, I've installed FF1 on  my new computer, and am in the rocess of adding in meshes. Now, the alpha channel presents a problem.

Yes,yes, I know: what else is new?

The thing is, it's weird.

On Male Alpha/Effects, alpha works on the "ears", arm and leg fins, visor, and the claws, but not on the cape. On this mesh, these are considered different parts. I have a couple of other MA meshes that the cape and other extras are considered to be the same piece; on these the alpha channel isn't working at all. I've checked the setting on the Alpha properties block details, and they are the same (I had thought that I might try copying the working block from the claws and stuff to the cape, but hey are the same).

I have a Radeon HD 3600 series video card. It might just require some setting that is a little off, but I don't know what to change and make it work.

Any ideas?

Bumping this slightly. ATI doesn't have Windows 7 drivers, and apparently no one has ever asked questions about Freedom Force before.

I'm having similar problems with alpha channels. The alpha works just fine in  :ffvstr: but not in  :ff:, even when the mesh was designed to the original game. There's a way to fix it?
Thanks!

Yeah, same here. Alpha channels work fine for FFv3R on the same computer.

Freedom force 1 has problems with alphas in general. I don't know if there's a catch-all fix.

Thanks for the answers, guys. My New Batman hex has this problem, the alpha works only in  :ffvstr:
Looks like I'll have to release him only to  :ffvstr: :(

I know. It's just kind of annoying; the alpha channels worked just fine on my old computer, and it would barely run either Ff at all.

I was just hoping someone had a suggestion or two.

I have always had trouble with the Alpha Channel. It made me stop using any Male_alpha skins back when the game came out. I eventually figured out a fix for it, but sadly, I've forgotten how I did it. Ma_effects_2 had the blocks on the face and all, and I just now figured out it's because  :ff: is looking for the glow and refl files, so I fixed the main.
However - all 'caped' ones do not work, and never have, I'm not entirely sure why but batman's cape never ends short. I did fix one cape before about a month ago when I was playing with the files as I go through my massive reinstall. (I admit it, I have issues with mesh/skin collecting.) I will try to hunt that down and find out what I did then.
