Isn't it funny how Marvel canceled one MMO and replaced it with another one aiming at kids? I'm not saying it's a bad idea... but I'd love to see that meeting:

:banghead: *sigh* it's been only one year of production, so let give it a chance for it to change completely. Other wise, in it's current state: :banghead:
The graphism are bad (not talking about the cartoon look, wich i actually enjoy, but the actual 3d modeling and texturing), animation is far from perfect, sfx looks promising.
But the concept? I'm not familiar with the cartoon: is it really for children, or do a lot of teenagers/youg adult watch it too?
Because i don't see a lot of 10 years old being able to afford a monthly fee for a video game...

So what's with the cards? Is that the combat mechanic or is that how they're handling your Pokemon Hero collection?
Anyhoo, I was not a fan of the show (the writing was amazingly blah) and to answer your question Trelau, the show skews towards pre-teen and younger.
I'm officially interested in the DC game now. Seriosly I would have easily taken a marvel one over a dc one (more invested in the history, characters, world, atmosphere) but well, if this is the Marvel game I'm all set.
Edit: and for the record I would play a fun Superhero Squad game if it is not an mmo. But as an mmo I mean I cant see myself wanting to explore the world beyond whatever fun the gameplay provides.
Okay, I just lost a couple of IQ points watching that. Iron Man and War Machine beating the bad guys by PLAYING MUSIC?!! Good grief.
Staying far, far away from this one.

Well...
I
did enjoy watching Wolverine slice bread with his claws.
I think the whole concept is epic hilarious and though I haven't watched the show, the webcomic was brilliant. But I'm not ever going to play this game.
I guess I can see why Marvel was interested in taking this route for MMO play.
The idea of a 'collection' of heroes plus instancing solves the problem of a million players wanting to be Wolverine. They can take full advantage of the Marvel intellectual property without taking any risk that the i.p. will be diluted or infringed. By making further use of the Super-Hero Squad, they can market SHS, reach the Disney target audience, and stay away from having to use any of their mainstream characters in ways that would interfere with their normal (ab)use of those characters.
For my part, I don't give a rip about SHS and have better places to allocate MMO subscription money.
Is this what we get from the Disney takeover?
This started pre-Disney Takeover sad to say.

Well, Marvel's SHS was around way before the Disney merger but I have no doubt that Disney's marketing people are going to whore out that series and characters because it fits in with their whole "family entertainment" deal. Those versions definitly would fit in standing next to the trademarked characters like Mikey and Goofy. After all look at the SHS version of Wolverine and tell me that he would make you crap your pants if he went all berzerker rage on you.. the claws look like rounded off aluminum toys accessories.
Now, Marvel's true MMO would take someone in comics with a big name like Jim Lee with the desire to fight for getting it done right to sit down at an art table and design the world from the ground up. After all of the video games lately from other companies have been coming into Disney/Marvel and not meeting their expectations I would think that Disney would push the games they think would appeal to a larger audience.

They are doing this to go up against the Lego MMO that's coming out.

via twitter I've found that two different companies, TAS (WA) and Gargantuan (CA) are working on different Marvel games.
TAS is working on Super Hero Squad and Gargantuan is working on "Marvel MMO"
Maybe there will be two? or maybe these two companies will be doing different parts.
