Title: Adding skins to FF1 built-ins...
Post by: daglob on May 06, 2010, 02:04:37 AM
... must be different from FFv3R. I know how to extract the FF1 built-ins (and did so long ago); do have to put the meshes in Custom and add the skins there, or is there another way?

You should just be able to create a blank folder with the name of the mesh in the custom mesh directory, and then place your skins in a skins folder as you normally would. I dont the think you have to actually extract the mesh itself as long as the folder name matches the mesh.

If I remember correctly FF1 was actually much better than FFvTR about looking in the custom directory, and if it couldn't find something, then look in the default game assets.

My current FF1 install after installing all the items mentioned in order on Alex's FF site has characters in two places.
One is C:\Freedome Force\Data\Art\custom_characters
Second is C:\Freedome Force\Data\Art\library\characters
Game seems to read both.

The library\characters path is the one you want.  And as Goggles says, you don't need mesh, keyframes, or anything else in there, as long as the directory structure is correct.  Unless you want to preview them with Character Tool.  ;)

That is what I tried: folder named the name of the characgter and with a skins folder and the additional skins.

Waitaminute... they aren't showing up in Character Tool. I haven't checked the character creation section yet.

They show up in Character Creation. At least the ones I didn't convert from DDS do. That is probably a whole 'nother thread, though.
