I know I should be able to search this or its somewhere obvious but I can't seem to find it. what's the maximum number of hero files FFVTTR and FFX will support?
I'm pretty sure it's infinite & if it's not then I wouldn't worry you'll never max it out
Thanks. good to know.
Why I asked I have maybe a total of 450 or so between my non mainstream characters and my son's mainstream ones. I wanted to included my own takes on the mainstream which would probably eventually put us up in the 600s all together.
600 Shouldn't be a problem, I think at one time I was up around 1200.
However, be aware that the more hero files you have (in my experience) the longer it takes the game to load.
When I was modding stuff, I often moved them all into a temp directory cause waiting 5-7 minutes per game load was terribly inefficient and slow.

That's exactly what we're doing in fact. whichever set of hero file is being used is up the others are in a temporary file
You working on a box w/ a standard or solid state hard drive? Solid state is a route you travel down & you'll never go back because it's so far beyond a normal HD for performance/access speed. If you've already been there, done that, forgive me for pointing out the obvious. Enjoy, sir.

When I can get a 1TB SSD for $89... I will go down that path, until then, my bank account prefers me to just be patient. :)
I asked this question awhile back; no one had an exact answer. I was runing out of memory (the detestable Fastheap error) with 3000 hero files (not 3000 characters, mind you; most of the Thing hero files were duplicates that referred to different skins, for instance). It also took ten minutes to load. Minimum. Then I weeded through them (put lot of hero files in a separate folder), and got around 2000 files. No more Fastheap error, and it loaded in around five minutes. Then I added some FX, and got my old buddy Fastheap back. So I reduced the hero files to around 1600, and that cleared it up. I concluded that it was strictly dependent on how much free memory you had (I had something like 750mb of RAM). I now have 4gb of RAM (and a faster processor), so I put all 3000 files back in the proper folder, kept all my FX, and it loads in less than a minute. No sign of Fastheap.
I concluded that the number of hero files has no game set limitation, but the amount of free RAM you have and the number of FX (probably other things I didn't discover as well) dictates the "real" number of files you can have.
3000 Hero files, WoW - Here I thought I was going a little overboard on my hero file count but some of you guys make my file count look like a begginer - I can't wait for the day thow when I finally finish every single hero file for every mesh, skope, skin I have - I try to do about 2 hero files a day (sometimes a bit more) - So I estimate in 5/6 years i'll be done & that's if nothing new comes out
