Maybe my search-fu is weak, but I wasn't able to find a suitable to answer to this question. Then again, maybe it's just harder than I think it is and everyone else knows better than to ask . . .
Anyway, I'm wanting to add a weapon to a mesh, in this case the lightsaber from male_basic_lightsaber. That part was relatively easy, with a little playing around and some patience, but here's the part I haven't figured out yet: I want the saber to be invisible until a particular animation is called, for the character to hit something with it, and then for it vanish again.
I've seen this done with other meshes, like the one for GL that conjures a power battery for some attacks, but since this is my first attempt at skoping a mesh I'm not even sure how to figure out from looking at that how it's done.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! :D

Thanks, John. I read through that one before I posted and there was some really good info in there, but I'm not sure I can make it apply because I don't know of a mesh that does that trick with sword animations. If I hide/shrink the lightsaber, then I don't know how to make it unhide/expand for the proper animation.
Maybe I should post in the request board to see if anyone knows of a vanishing sword mesh . . .
Does JIK's Deadpool mesh have the vanishing sword? I'm not on my pc, so I can't check for sure.
I know when my parts are revealed I usually hide, otherwise, I get arrested.
