Title: Fun with Mugen & Superheroes
Post by: electro on April 19, 2010, 03:57:28 AM
There is no Mugen thread so I decided to start one for Superhero/Villain stuff - Feel free to post things releated - I made a new special intro for when Juggernaut meets Wolverine

Video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oys3Uzp4hU

Got any ideas for a cool intro like what would Doc Doom say to Magneto if they meet etc... let me know I might add it to my game

One of my favorite videos is Deadpool versus Miku Hatsune (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajT49zwLSlA).  I've been meaning to try out Mugen.  I'm getting one of my laptops back next week and am probably going to turn it into a Linux box, and I know there's at least one Mugen build for Linux so I might try it on that.

Yea Linux does a have a build but, not every character will work for it i'm afraid - It's free thow, so you might as well give it a whirl if you like 2D fighters

Nice job on Black Tom, Hood & Quicksilver! Those look great. Can't say I like the new Zangeif pose but to each their own, right?

Heh, that's definitely true. My wife and I laughed at Zangief good 10 minutes, BEST VICTORY POSE EVER.

New winning pose i'm working on where Juggernaut charges the screen & breaks it - Based on Zvitor's Juggernaut design but, drawn by me & converted to sprites - Zvitor is easily one of the best & creative Mugen creators & am taking my advancment into mugen from his lead - I have a few more Juggehead frames done but, don't want to show anymore till the final frame is finished - Also the Quicksilver sprites are part of my revamp off Kong's Magneto who will have all the original Brotherhood of Evil Mutants as strikers/helpers as well as a few new Hypers & specials - I'm open to suggestions on the strikers who are Toad, Quciksilver, Scarlet Witch, Mastermind - each striker will have 2 moves. Obviously one of Quicksilver's moves is finished so any more ideas other than this are welcome.

Brotherhood Magento so far :

Quicksilver : cost 600 power points : reaction he runs in & creates a whirlwind that sends the opponent flying - Thow it does little damage they cannot recover from the hit & create a setup for more attacks - If you fail to take advantage of the setup then you can at least get fall damage from the attack so as to not waste 600 points completly - Was thinking for Toad a tounge slam attack or a combo melee - Thats as far as i've gotten so far

Beautiful Black Tom sprites, Electro. Should be interesting to see how he develops... with a possible beta release in the future? ^_^ *hint hint* My main suggestion for improvement is that his motions don't look natural enough to fit in with the other Capcom-made Marvel characters... he looks too static at times, and each sprite is pretty clearly visible which makes it appear to have less "oomph." I would cut out a few transition sprites and maybe focus on making him look a bit more fluid.

Post by: electro on June 17, 2010, 09:53:12 PM
Black Tom will just be a bring in helper & was commissioned as such - basically he just jumps in real fast does a blast then leaps out (to help Jugghead) - If he suceeds in the attack then he does a win pose & if he's hit then falls back , gets up then jumps out - I wasn't planning on doing a full Black Tom char but, I'll ask you this is he cool enough to continue on to a full char or should I just focus on doing other projects - By the way i agree with your critique he really could be more fluid & as a full character he should be more fluid - I'm conflicted on him - By the way heres an early Superman sprite - Maybe he looks to much like that crappy Superman returns actor but what i was going for was Christopher Reed - Hurmmmm maybe its the blue shade that looks wack

I would love to see a full Black Tom character, but of course as the creator that's up to you. I think he's fine the way he is if he's intended as just a helper, but if he were going to be a full char then yeah, I would say a little bit of polish would be in order. (by the way, I'm curious... what bases did you use if any?)

Nice Superman! =D He looks very SNK-style, I wonder if that's what you were going for?

Yea I used bases from Gambit & Young Joesph for Black Tom & Radel from snk for the Supes - I might boost up superman to hi-res thow & add a little of my own flare to the sprite - I'll work on a few more sprites for Black Tom & see if hes worth the 450 more sprites thats required to to make him a full char - Thanks for the feed!

Anyone here ever play the arcade game Pit Fighter? - Well I just helped make the character TY from the game & is now ready for download on my site - Pit Fighter was by no means a pretty or controller friendly game but, it did have a certain cheesy charm to it so I kinda think it's funny to have the characters from that game in my fighting game - He has most of his moves from the game but, plays more like the marvel vs Capcom style than his Pit Fighter game

Whats New :

Superjump.
combo chaining.
new air melee sprites & moves.
2X4 now breaks on impact, slight knockback.
knife now stun for longer period to allow TY to recover.
2 new hyper moves :::

(TY combo) ~D, DF, F, x+y   :::: this move has a big kick at the end which you can then combo into his other moves like barrel toss or 2X4.

(Pit Knifer) ~D, DF, F, a+b   :::: This move actually has a random fatality if you kill them on the secound or third round.

New intro kinda like Kung Fu Mans where he kicks the barrell.
New winning pose displaying the pit fighter intro text.
made all special moves a little quicker to execute.
rearranged the collision boxes to detect better.
added in new sounds for Barrell toss, 2x4, & few other attacks.
added a slow motion & slight screen shake to a few moves for dramatic effect.
added in Cheap KO effect if you die while blocking, basically one of the girls comes in a offers you a slice of green cheese, then you die.
Dizzy sprites added
New throwing star added
New Blocking sprites added
New commands for special attacks :

Knife  : ~D, DB, B, a  or  ~D, DB, B, b
2x4    : ~D, DF, F, a  or  ~D, DF, F, b
stars  : ~D, DF, F, x  or  ~D, DF, F, y
barrel : ~$40 B, F, x  or  ~$40 B, F, y

More to com!

Sorry, it's just whenever someone mentions Pit Fighter, I cry a little on the inside. It's purely a involuntary reaction. Much like the one most people have towards Ke$ha or Nickleback.

Yea I know what you mean by your comments :D Sometimes it's just funny to beat your friends up with a loser character - Kinda like beating your friends in street fighter with Dan - It makes them rage even more - I'll probably work on Mugen for the rest of my Life kinda like Freedom Force - You can never really finish making these games since theres so much community content to play with

I would suggest keeping things as balanced as possible between characters that you make. Mainly because I see a lot of MUGEN creators like to go a little overboard with how strong their creations are and you get really unbalanced characters. What I would suggest doing as you are making the characters is think about how well the character would fit in ST, balance wise. If the character you are making completely crushes ST Akuma, you went too far.

Not to worry my characters are pretty balanced - Years of making hero files & gamming in general have taught me to not make characters uber cheap - Your right thow velocity there are tons of mugen characters that are extremly over powered - If they are I just edit them for my game to play well with my other characters

Wolverine from the 1992 X-Men Arcade game - I Squeezed as much as I could from the sprites to get a 6 button MvC styled char - This is just an alpha release so no special moves at the moment but, does have 3 throws, all melee attacks, 1 Hyper, win quotes & portrait, hit react, blocking anims, sound, & 1 intro etc... - Basically fully playable - Right now it's just for the new Mugen 1.0 RC8 but, i'll have a WinMugen version for the beta release @-)

Thanks - He will be released in a project called Project X - Which is a re emagining of the way the X-Men characters look & play from Capcom's games along with a few newcommers - The leader of the project Zvitor asked if i could whip up a Black Tom helper for Juggernaut & that was what I gave him - The website is up with a few beta releases & plenty of preview videos with the full game to be released later but, I don't have the official scoop since i'm not involved with the project
