Title: Locations for Meshes and Skins
Post by: IceStorm on April 14, 2010, 01:59:41 PM
Once upon a time I had a lot of these characters on my hard drive.  I don't generally make mods or skins, but i like playing the game with them all.  Then my hard drive crashed.
Unfortunately, I really don't have the time to search through the many, many dozens of yahoo groups to find all of them again.

Is there some location that has meshes and skins on it as downloadable links?
Even a couple of locations would be fine.

This goes for FF and FFvtTR.

hmm, off the top of my head
freedomforceforever.com
and ffcenter.net
are the biggest hubs for sites.
then there are Prev's FRP2 site and Laughing Paradox's Repository that have many recent updates.  you should explore the "Promotions and Site Updates" forum and see whats out there.

There is also the master mesh list, which has links to the locations of a lot of meshes and attached skins.

Other than that...

The biggest problem with the Yahoo groups, spam aside, is that you can't see what it is you're getting.
We really do need to come up with something a bit more user-friendly for us non-modders/meshers.

Not to say I won't someday get into it, but for now I'm not up to it.

EDIT:
And I just realized that there's a photo section in each, at least some people have put up images, so it's a bit easier.

Still a long trek to find anything I want to use.

Some of us preview stuff in our Skins thread (mine is the Skin-A-Rama), so, while you may not see the finished product, you do get an idea of what is being offered.

You can cut spam from a Yahoo group by (I think) checking "Web Only" when you go through the joining process. Or change the setting if you have laready joined.

However, what you are talking about (or something like it) has been suggested before, and there is a bit of supoort for it. Maye this time...

If you're interested in a huge batch download, you could grab the DCU mod, which besides having levels has almost every DC hero in it

That's not a bad idea. Check out the list of mods in the mods forum. While none are as comprehensive as Benton's, taken together they include a LOT of skins and meshes.

I wouldn't mind a copy of the list to Crip. WIP or whatever that's something that should get stickied.

                                          Herculoids

Any and help is appreciated of course.

The only thing that jumps straight out at me as maybe not done is "Dr Bong Kprrek the barbarian," but there are several others I'm not sure about.  I know that Thundarr was done at one point in time, though I don't remember by whom.  Val did Fing Fang Foom.  I know there is a eneral skin out there somewhere, but I don't know if there is one specifically for Ross.  Atomic did a bunch of movie monsters....someone did a skope of Prof. X in a wheelchair, TJ did AIM minions, and someone has done Howard the Duck.  I'm afraid I'm at work at the moment, so I can't check who did what or where it is located.  Can anyone provide this fellow with links?

Thanks for the help.

I've got the movie Dracula and Frankenstein, but was looking more for the Marvel ones, especially from the Tomb of Dracula series

And sorry, that should be Korrek the Barbarian

I will send you Beta Ray Bill (no longer available anywhere), the Ani-Men (just found them myself), and Professor X (both Classic and a new updated version with an upgraded wheelchair).

A couple others are here:
Fin Fang Foom: http://newpowerinc.com/ (go to Meshworks/Valandar/Gargantuans)
Zabu: not sure if there's a specific mesh/skin for him, but there is a Big Cat Versatile at http://newpowerinc.com/ (Meshworks/Valandar/Misc). You can do things like remove the mane and other things to make it look like the cat you want.

Hey, Benton, do you still have that Mayan warrior I did for you a while back? He might like that. I lost everything I did for you in a crash.

Edit: I also forgot I have your AIM lackey, as well.

Using the list, I just found a Ka-Zar Zabu combo with a big cat versatile already done

Ohh, right Hoss!  I had forgotten about him because I haven't gotten around to telling that Hawkman story yet.  I've still got him hanging around somewhere.  Send me your email via PM Random, I can get you a Mayan/Aztec warrior type.

I believe that Johnny Patches made a Hulkbuster skope. I think someone had made a skin for it as well, not sure who though.

I like being able to use all sorts of other characters in game, preferrably ones that aren't canon comic book heroes.
i.e original and generic creations.
Which is another reason yahoogroups are a bit cumbersome for me.

Eventually I will go out and track down everything I can find (or I'll get around to learning how to mesh and skin for myself), but I think I'll need a spare hard drive to hold them all.
My only concern there is the huge list of custom meshes that puts in game when you want to create a character.
As it is I have maybe 1/10th what I used to have I already have to search for 5 minutes to find something.

You may want to check here: http://ffportal.negative-10.com/
It has a listing of sites to find skins and meshes, among other things for FF. It also has Yahoo group listings if you need them.

This is a good link. I've never seen it before. Thank you for pointing this out.

I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, but this thread is over three years old and, unfortunately, USAgent hasn't posted in a while. But, the good news is; I did a Gamora skope and Laughing Paradox did a skin for her. It's at the Force of Paradox site (link in my signature) and the direct link to the page is here: http://forceofparadox.yolasite.com/hoss20.php

Ouch...Major Necropost.

Yeah, unfortunately, USAgent hasn't been active for quite a while. He was one of the major creators of "Hero Files", and came to be a pretty darn good skinner as well.
