Title: Perfect Punisher
Post by: lugaru on April 04, 2010, 04:00:04 AM
I finally feel like I have a Punisher that is a real threat but still feels entirely human. Stats: Pretty much all 4 except for strength which is 3. His attacks are shotgun (multiple instances of lowish damage piercing), Machine gun (medium cost, 6 bullets), Sniper Rifle, Grenade, etc.

Here is what is cool: he is battery powered and when he runs out of energy he transforms into "Punisher - Melee" who uses mostly knife attacks with halfway decent accuracy and damage and no cost. Once his energy is done refilling BAM, you have the machine gun wielding punisher again.

I've seen him wipe the floor with medium groups of thugs so long as he does not start on top of them (in which case they beat and shoot him to death).  As for mid level villains he can take them down if he catches them off guard (which is his style) and of course anyone with decent armor can shrug off anything the punisher can throw at 'em.

When I get a chance I'll update him with a "front twards enemy" land mine attack and a couple of other crazy things.

Nice.

I never got too much into the special FX stuff, I was enver good with all the code type stuff, but that sounds like a well put together Punisher. I especially like the battery powered idea. If I was to do that, Id make his attacks powerful, but not too fast. I get this idea from one of the Batman/Punisher crossovers where Batman comments that when he was fighting the Punisher, that his fighting style was that he was skilled, he fought like a thug.

As for the shotgun thing, I always made it have a good amount of knockback, since thats always what it does in the movies.

The mine thing is a good idea. When I made my Punisher, and I did this with Mysterio too, I gave him a very high cost direct attack explosion thing with a high knock back and named it Booby Trap, to simulate that sort of thing. It worked well with the detonator animation on Gren's Punisher mesh.

I need to throw my bats at him, I think Batman might win with his power canceling attacks (blindness, null) and good melee damage. Still if Punisher empties a machine gun round into him things would get even real quick.

I'm working on a lot more integrated objects/items such as bombs, inventions and mystic objects. I need to figure some stuff out but it should be cool when I'm done.

Sounds pretty cool, and actually pretty much like my Rick Flag.  He's dangerous while he's got ammo, but once he runs out, he better hope he's got backup.  It definitely makes for a fun play style, and it certainly fits the Punisher.
