So my VCR is slowly dying and I need to start considering a new method of recording. I don't really know much about whats out there, so I was hoping you guys could give me some suggestions.
are you serious? What are you recording?
Just tv shows to watch later, when I'm out or busy. I can research it myself but was hoping to get some direction. I know cable networks offer a service but isn't there something you can buy and use at home. Yeah sorry I'm way out of date on this stuff.

TiVo
or a similar DVR device
You can probably watch many of the shows online and really save some money
I always go to hulu.com to watch any shows I might have missed.
Yeah, very major network has most shows available the day after on their websites. Hulu has most of them in one place.
Other than that, I DVR of some kind is your best bet.
Online is something I use but this would be for my family so watching stuff off a computer isn't ideal for all of them. Thanks for the help guys.
