Title: Patriot City still crashing after bug patch & Clean Options
Post by: freegentile on January 10, 2010, 07:53:33 PM
I have many other mods installed, as well...Crisis, Dark Intentions, & ff3Mappack. I removed & replaced everything & it still crashes w/ this screenshot, which I'll try to attach. Thank you, sirs.

Don't see where I can attach files. Error is titled, "Alert" & shows...

alert:CCampaignImp::getNextMissionCampaignDef(), invalid campaign mission index

...& kicks me out of the game, back to Windows desktop.

That's likely got something to do with your campaign file.  You have the newest version, including episode 2?

Probably not. I got it from fundamentzero's site.

It says Patriot City version 1, then patch to 1.1. Obviously, I'm happy to find out where any updates are! Looks like that guy's site's last update for Patriot City, the 1.1 patch, was from 8/2005.

Ahhh....sorry, my mistake.  You're talking about Patriot City, not Patriot City Tales.  I don't know about the freeroam mod.  Sorry man, I can't help you much.  There is one possibility, though.  Have you done anything with FFEdit?

Howdy.

2005? How time flies! That would be the last time I updated Patriot City.
So is this crashing straight after install with that error message?

I'm trying to think why it would do that. Patriot City has a single mission in its campaign structure, which you fail repeatedly and it copies a new set of files over the top each time you switch level. Thats how it works internally. There was a bug in the original FF that made the first save game often jump to a later mission when you played a mod.

So if these two combine, you might have it trying to access a level that doesnt exist when you load. I'm not sure to be honest.

Patriot City does have a crahs bug with some save games that IO was never able to resolve.

So when does this error come up?
You install the base installer, then the 1.1. patch, and then run it using "New Campaign" ? At what point is it crashing?

This sounds like the same error that happens when you use ffedit and click the campaign tab.

Its been a while since I did FF but I seem to remember that the campdef.dat would go wonky after clicking the tab. You might try either deleting (or better, just moving) the campdef.dat file (the one in the mod you are playing) to somewhere outside the game directory and let the game rebuild it when run. That seems to fix the error in a lot of cases....

That error happens in FF1; IG fixed it in FFvtTR. Though, the game does have issues with the campdef being < 6 or so entries, iirc, to the point where I was forced to have 2 missions in "Hydra," otherwise the game would encounter random errors.

OK, removing campdef.dat & letting the game rebuild did the trick w/ it crashing. Now it's a little whacky w/ actually giving you the heroes & villains you pick in the rumble room...I'll play thru a few more combinations of heroes & villains & maps & see what's up. At least it's not crashing any more! Thank you, gentlemen. A most pleasant good evening to you all.

Are you playing the Rumble Room using the Patriot City mod?
I don't think that gives you anything that plain old FFX doesn't - the mod's just there for the Campaign mode, which lets you roam the city with a single hero.

Now that makes sense.  I noted that when I tried again this a.m., even though I picked many heroes, it only let me play the first one. It will take multiple bad guys, but does whacky stuff w/ them. If I choose Patriot City as the map, it's this black & white underground Nazi-looking place w/ metal grids in the floor, which I can disappear underneath & only see my shadow. Weird. The bad guys are taken out w/ one shot of whatever you throw @ them. When you take out the last one, the red arrow stays where they went down & doesn't go away, even though no more baddies are left. I picked Abraxas, that huge demon in the mod...though he shows in FF, too, after I applied FF Gold...& when I hit him w/ heat vision (was playing Superman)...he KO'd & disappeared from sight, not just fell over in a heap & then disappeared. I noted that when I hit The Connector w/ a punch, the went flying, as he should, but hit a wall & disappeared, w/ the red arrow staying over where he landed. Is Abraxas & the new bad guys in the list I see in Patriot City from some other mod, like PC Tales? As I noted earlier, I saw Abraxas & some new baddies in FF, too, after I applied the FF Gold patch. I did the FFX 3 updates, w/ the save games, patches, etc. from fundamentzero's site, as well as the FF Gold patch, & the Patriot City mod, all @ the same time. Don't know if that matters or not. I didn't do anything w/ FFEdit @ any point, though. I still don't understand it, so I steer clear unless I have step by step instructions.

My thoughts exactly.

I still have some character weirdness, but installed FFX 3.3 & need some guidance, so I'll start another post because I'd really like to get straightened out on being able to see heroes & villains across mods, make all the powers & effects act the same, etc. Thank you, most learn-ed ones.
