I am also a budding writer and am currently an English major in college, and I have the same problem you have regarding the ability to come up with artistic renditions of my imagination.  You made some bad writing choices in your post, and as fellow budding writing I would like to offer you a critique.  I have no desire to degrade you.  You want to offer you information that would improve your writing skills.  I am also giving you the benefit of the doubt.  I don't know if English is your first language, your age, education level, or your comfort with message boards or typing.  I am not trying to talk down to you.

You had several spelling and grammar mistakes.  Maybe, that would be okay for texting or twittering, but if you are serious about writing correctly as often as you can.  The purpose in writing, like in any form of artistic expression, is to convey information in a way the recipient can understand, or at least to the extent you want him to understand.  Pablo Picasso may have painted abstracts, and e. e. cummings may have written abstractly, but they were both masters of their media, and their outcomes were not a product of random luck.

Regarding spelling issues, there are many good opportunities that could aid you.  One is that there are some really excellent online dictionaries out there.  I like Merriam-Webster's site, and there are many specialized dictionary sites.  I employ a Spanish/English site for my Spanish class, a biology site for my biology class, a computer site for my current profession, and a philosophy site just because I am a geek that way.  In addition, baby name and surname sites are excellent for coming up with character names.

Further more, some browser program come with spell checking add-ons.  I am using Firefox with a spell checking add-on, and it has saved me from embarrassment several times within this post alone.  I can even switch to Spanish dictionary when I am visiting my online Spanish class.  There are dictionary add-ons for other languages, but I never write in those languages anyway.

As for grammar and punctuation, that just requires practice, practice, and more practice.  There are no reliable technological solutions for grammar and punctuation, especially with the English language.

Whoops!  Sorry about that.  I was taking a break from my Creative Writing classwork when I read Ember's post, and I was still in workshop mode.

I can come off as really anal sometimes, but I am the sort that will help anybody as long as I have the means to do it; so, if there is something I can help with, feel free to contact me, but if you email me, be sure to use Freedom Force or your handle within the subject line.  Otherwise, I am likely to assume it is spam and delete it without looking at it.
