Latest bit of news from
Ain't It Cool about the coming Thor flick...
QuoteHey folks, Harry here with the latest bit of Superhero Film Casting News and it is very strange indeed. According to actor, Matthias Schweigh?fer, who you may have seen in VALKYRIE or RED BARON - in an article in the German edition of Gentlemen's Quarterly aka GQ, he states that he's in the running for a role in Branagh's THOR, but he also mentions that Jude Law and Robert DeNiro have joined the cast.
Now, I don't doubt that they have, they're very much the sort of Actor I would expect from a Kenneth Branagh helmed THOR film, I'm just absolutely flummoxed to think who they are playing. I have to give thanks to our German reader, "I SAY THEE @#$&*!@ KA-JAY!" for giving me the heads up on the article. And for that matter, who would Matthias Schweigh?fer play? Interesting times as these Superhero films rush to begin shooting soon!
Jude Law and DeNiro? I'll believe it when I see it... but the question is --- who would they play?
---RTT
Maybe they'll play the other Asgardian warriors? Jude Law could be the guy with the green and the sword, and DeNiro..well..idk. One of the other helmeted dudes?
Law and DeNiro as two of the Warriors Three? Hmmm....
Why not DeNiro as Odin??
And Jude Law as The Executioner? (ok, doesn't make sense but who knows) or Baldur? or what about Heimdall?

Actually, I could kind of see DeNiro as Heimdall...
I could see Jude Law as Loki, they both come off as kind of obnoxious, granted Jude Law a little more than Loki. Robert DeNiro = The Enchantress
Jude Law will probably play Fandral the Dashing. That's who I was trying to think of.

DeNiroi as Hogun The Grim and Jude Law are Fandral .... that seems to make the most sense and would actually be great casting.

Jude Law I can understand, he shold be able to pull off the pseudo old english speech(if they have it in the film) but De Niro? Great actor but can't think of anyone he would play unless Thor fights, I dunno, Hammerhead?
Well he is 100 so I guess any old man role could suit him.
Anthony Hopkins cast as Odin in Thor movie. Filming to start January 2010: http://www.superherohype.com/news/thornews.php?id=8799
!!! <3
So we can expect the hammiest, over-the-top Odin ever. Hopkins is rubbish nowadays.
Hmm....Hopkins is a great actor....but he's not right for Odin.

What.
What.
What.
Freejack, Dracula, Instinct, Hannibal, Bad Company, Red Dragon, The Human Stain, Alexander, etc. Come on, you have to admit that those films are rubbish and he is rubbish in them.
Admittedly, I haven't seen his recent film Bare Knuckle (a film is about a stuntwoman who enters the high stakes private world of female fist fighters to earn money to pay for her special-needs daughter) ... I mean, that could be great for all I know ...
I could see Hopkins going the theater actor route with Odin
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Dracula rubbish? Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula? That movie is what made me fall in love with Gary Oldman as an actor. Heck, I could even put up with Keanu Reeves, I loved that movie so much. I don't want to hear anybody bad talking Dracula!
I find that Anthony Hopkins always seems like Anthony Hopkins - he doesn't act very much. Sure, physically he looks more the part than Keanu Reeves or Kevin Costner but I would be greatly surprised if he was at all convincing as anything other than Anthony Hopkins in a fancy suit.

I don't know what to tell you ... people have been bad talking about Dracula going on 17 years now ....
Although it was CGI, I really liked Hopkins in Beowulf. He portrayed a Nordic king rather well.

...and now we have Twilight vampires.
Yeah, things have improved. <_<
I'm all for Anthony Hopkins. One of my favourites. He may not be a *great* actor, sure, but I find his presence comforting. Like Liam Neeson.
I can almost guarantee he'll be playing Loki.
I know it doesn't make sense but;
He's a very famous actor and would demand a primary role.
He's best known for a role as a villain.
He's 100 years old and looks like the crypt creeper, I don't think he can play a wise and friendly old guy like Odin.
So he'll definitely be a bad guy. Why not just make Loki be a scary looking old guy? I don't know much about Thor, but I don't know of any characters that he would be good for.
And where's this hatin' come from? He's not my favorite actor and he's been in some terrible movies but so has the greatest actor of all time, Will Smith. Though Smith is better at being easily appreciated in any role because of his incredible talent. Hopkins also has some of that similar quality.
Also, Red Dragon was almost as good as Silence of the Lambs. What was not to like about that movie?
Tom Hiddleston is Loki, Tony Hopkins is Odin. That's already been announced pointy.

Tell me you are joking! Will Smith is not the greatest actor of all times. One of the best of the past fifteen years at best. Though, his past couple of movies have stank.

Agreed. Will Smith doesn't really do much for me anymore. What about Sean Penn, people??

Ha!
Its all about Hilary Duff.
I would totally cast Hilary Duff as Odin.
if Hilary Duff is gonna play Odin then can Paris Hilton play The Enchantress?

Well, I thought Silence of the Lambs was great. Red Dragon was boring ... Brett Ratner is a journeyman director with no style. I could really pick it apart, but I don't want to be that sort of over-analytical internet guy.

Brett also directed X-Men 3. What does that tell you?

Silence of the Lambs was written after Red Dragon. Its speculated - thanks to the similar plots - that the Silence was a kind of redo of Red Dragon, hence the better plot.
The Red Dragon book is kinda boring compared to Silence, so the same can be expected of the films.
Threadjack, anyone?
