Title: As Grey as a Ghost
Post by: BentonGrey on September 04, 2009, 01:34:21 AM
Howdy guys, I am requesting a skin/skope of a new original character.  This fellow is a concept I've been working on for a while now, and one that I'd like to see brought to life in FF.  I have an idea for a story involving him and Sky King as a possible story arc in Patriot City Tales, but it is relatively far down my list of, so it may not make the cut.  Just to be clear, I am asking for this for my own, personal use, although there is a chance that I would use him in PCT.  If I don't use him there, there is also a good chance that he could show up in another project of mine that is in the planning stages.  Without further ado, I give you-

The Grey Rider:

Col. Samuel J. Lofton was a Confederate officer in the Army of Northern Virginia.  Lofton was a good man who rose to the defense of his home when it was threatened by what, to the people of the South, was practically a foreign power.  He served with intelligence, bravery, dedication, and even enthusiasm during the long, brutal war.  When Lee surrendered at Appomattox, Col. Lofton took his men south to continue the fight.  It was during those last, desperate months that he began to fight, not for his home, not for his family, and not for his honor, but for hatred's sake and the love of war.  His actions stained his soul.  Finally, he found the bullet with his name on it, and he died, wrapped in his rage.  When called before God to give an account of his mortal actions, he was unrepentant...and the judgment of the Almighty was swift and uncompromising.  The war was an unholy thing, with brother fighting brother, and to have embraced the unrighteous conflict so completely marked the former soldier.

Col. Samuel J. Lofton was no more, but his soul was sent back to the land of the living.  He was bound forever to the land that he had fought so hard to protect.  Lofton became the Grey Rider, sentenced to ride perpetually in pursuit of justice, righting wrongs and defending the weak and helpless.  One day he may redeem himself, but until then, he rides.

The idea is a cross between Uncle Sam, something of a "Spirit of the South," and The Specter.  As far as appearances, well that is what I really need help on.  I have the idea of him having a look mostly defined by the uniform of a Confederate cavalry officer, but also informed by the likes of Gentleman Ghost, with more superheroic elements brought into the design.  He should be somewhat ghostly, armed with a cavalry saber and revolver, and perhaps sporting a vandyke.  I'm really open to design suggestions.  I've provided some reference pictures:

I've been thinking that some type of mask (like the Son of Liberty below has), say from when he was marauding at the end of the war, might help make him look more superheroic.  That and a short 'cavalry cape,' might be cool.  I was thinking the dominant colors could be gray (of course), blue (glowing blue eyes! plus maybe pants and cape), and yellow (cavalry colors).  He does NOT need to be on a horse.
