Great work!, I like Blindspot too but the orange on RR i'm not too fond of - but that's mostly because i really dislike orange.
I have a suggetion for Mammon:
As he's the named after the god of greed, let him be a little indulgent with his costume details. Right now when I look at him I see HERO not Villain - his logo is prominent and the only thing (for me) that indicates any sense of malevolence is the gold eyes. I'd give him some decorative golden emebellishments. From which mythology is Mammon from? Greek? you could use the greek key pattern, or greek references (alphabet, animals). I'd say just find a tribal-like image which fits your theme, create a repeat pattern and place it on the black suit.

Or add lots of golden chains and jewels. and a crown - make him look like Midas himself.

Hope those ideas are useful!

Thanks for the ideas,I'm working out a sketch now with gold armbands, don't know about a crown but maybe a headband or something.

really like this new batch of skins. if you're looking to make a shield fx for the american, i recommend using one of grenadier's shield fx as a base. i believe renegade's shield fx's cant be altered.

Time to get a little critical...

Step away from the black outlines.  On a few of the skins... the black outlines work because of the dominance of dark colors.  But on skins like Beastboy and the American.... they become a distraction.  Outlining a bloc of color with darker shades of its self... is a better way to go to get the seperation you want.

p.s. you're not doing it... but stay away from the beveled or grooved looks as well... unless the skin 'really' calls for it.

The one skin you're unsure of is my favorite! I like the idea of putting more 'gold' onto the skin, though.

This is what I missed, not like my friends here at home that pat me on the back and say "oooohhh that is awesome, you should do this professionally",Thanks for the honesty HQ
I'm trying to make better skins, but being self taught is a bit of a drawback and honestly I'm working with a mediocre program to begin with :(
But,I will definately take your advice and work on the color separation a little more

I'll have a pic posted soon,But the redo is starting to look really cool :D(Gold armbands really help the look)

I'm not really all that bothered by the black outlines HQ mentioned. But i think HQ's suggestion would make these skins look even better. :)

Nice to see more original characters being done. Solid designs and creative names for all of them. Good job.

I took the black lines at face value. It seemed like you were trying to go for a very simplistic hand drawn style. However, I agree, they don't work all the time and seem far too pixely if that's what you're trying to do. You ought to try a higher resolution for your skins.

If this is what you are going for then you are heading in the right direction with this last one. You could maybe add a bit more colour contrast though. Just a touch of a darker skin shade around the eyes, mouth, maybe under the nose. But not too much. Really, you ought to get less colour depth on your older skins. Then, I think, they might match the style a bit more.

Unless I'm being craaaazy.

Nice haunting design on the face, Bloodshadow. Sort of reminds me of Daglob's earlier face work on a certain mummy.  :)

Sorry guys,Real life kicked me in the rear the last couple weeks
Thanks for all the advice and comments guys,I really appreciate it.
Now to an update of an old character design,The Gold Eagle
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v110/Bloodshadow13/GoldEagleII.png)
This is the modern version,I've also included a Golden Age version and an updated shield throw fx in the zip
P.s. I'm also reworking the Black Lantern BShadow, the eyes do need darkened majorly.

That's an amazing design. I love the mask and logo in particular. It reminds me a bit of how Gryphon made awesome looking skins in low resolution. Keep it up!

Well gotta get back to skinnin'.workin' on a cool skin right now, here's a little hint.......

With blood and rage of crimson red....
Ripped from a corpse so freshly dead....
Together with our hellish fate...
We'll burn you all....
That is your fate!

A big thank you goes to Courtnall6,the face and wings are his work,The Red Lantern suit is mine, and though I don't usually kit bash, this skin called for it and Court gave his permission to show it(thanks again Court),so here it is :D
Another original next, just came up with the design and concept, whatcha think?

I like Torrent. Maybe make her a slightly darker blue, but the light one still works; not a big deal. Her design needs to be something more powerful though; with a name like Torrent, a single raindrop looks kind of unimpressive. Maybe a whirlpool?
Title: Re: Bloodshadow's Skinlab - Yep I'm back at it

Thanks for the suggestion Gremlin,I think I'll try the whirlpool symbol and a darker blue.
Might take a minute for v2 though as I'm making an Orange Lantern at the moment :D
be back soon!

Nice to see you back with a new original character BloodShadow. ^_^

What would be MorningStar's powers? I think that would help people get some ideas for any costume design suggestions. :)

Really solid design on Morningstar Bloodshadow.
I've got a suggestion that might me a little strange.
Many cosmic type superheroes have a sort of Aura or FX associated with them (black bolts lighting/captain marvel or quasar's bands/ Apollo's halo)
How about having a sort of aura behind his head?  maybe take a flat plane and have it alpha enabled with the costumes logo, so it's kind of like an aura that highlights him from behind (like it emphasizes his head and shoulders)
It would be a kind of beacon - as a morningstar is for sailors/travellers.

Very cool idea,I will try it but so far I'm moving slow on learning how to skope stuff
I will definately try it though, cause that sounds awesome!
QuoteWhat would be MorningStar's powers? I think that would help people get some ideas for any costume design suggestions.
Morningstar was designed to be uber powerful, light, density, gravity control powers, etc.(no light constructs or anything GL like)he doesn't shoot "light" blasts either, generally a crushing gravity blast for offfense and density control type defenses.I'm working on Origin story now and hero file also,I'll include both in the updated zip.(I'll post his origin and an updated pic as soon as I can, gotta go try DM's idea 1st)

I have been doing all my line work kinda micro style, with the pen tool :blink:Unfortunately I have been very limited with the program I've been using.Good news though is I now have Photoshop7,after this one my skins may really suck for a minute while I relearn to skin :unsure:hopefully now I can improve and really create my own skinning style.I'd like to get good enough to create my own bases and all that ;)
