Title: I'm British?
Post by: Tomato on August 22, 2009, 06:55:00 AM
So, according to some very knowledgeable people on Freedom Reborn, I, Jonathon Paul Sparks AKA Tomato, am British. This is an amazing thing for me to discover, as I was born on a military base in California, have a sister three years younger then I born in Virginia, spent some of my formative teenage years in Texas (small enough I don't really have a noticeable southern accent, but enough that I'll use "y'all" or "fixin" in a sentence) and have lived for half a dozen years about 20 minutes outside Waldorf, Maryland. The only time I have left the continental US I was forced on a cruise as a "vacation" where we went to the Caribbean islands and I got so badly sunburned at the beach I was peeling for the next week. Really, my only ties to England are my enjoyment of certain aspects of British media: Doctor Who, Hitchhikers, and Harry Potter(might be something else, can't remember offhand... bah).

So yeah, color me curious... why do so many people think I'm British?

Your snootiness. :P

I'm not sure why people think this. I remember seeing a YouTube vid you posted of yourself. Very obviously not British.

it's kinda cockney rhyming slang mixed with mary poppins I think.
not being a cockney myself, I couldnt work out what he meant unless I referred back to tomato's original post

.....
first everyone thought everyone spoke like the queen, and now we're apparently all chavs.... fortunately in reality most of us english people actually have a decent grasp on the english language, funny that.
for the record, american friends on vent say I sound like the geico gecko.

There's only one sure way to determine whether Tomato is really American (as he claims) or British (as is alleged):

How do you pronounce your name then eh?  Is it Tom-ah-to or Tom-ay-to?

Tom, weren't you telling me about your new Manchester United tattoo that spans your entire back. You also said something along the lines of "I'm not interested in seeing the rest of the world, nor do i care for it. I'm from frickin' England!"

Which one, the mean voiced one who hates that people call him or the new spokesman one?

New spokesman one, I can see the accent they were aiming at. Its horribly noticeable when an american tries for a british accent...

Also, Cor, Guv'nor! Tickle my carriage and tally ho, what not, this is ta jollah good time, what what? < - Everybody who is british sounds like this, comes from London and can watch Guy Ritchie Films without subtitles :D

That's ok.  I sent a voice acting audition to a fellow in the UK who somehow thought I lived in the UK as well.  Um, I'm Canadian...  I likely sound more like someone from Seattle.  Anyhow, he found out when I spoke with him on Skype, lol.

don't mind me being silly.  i'm one of those americans that totally revere the british entertainment industry, based on what's ported over here.

not totally getting or understanding the might boosh, i must admit.
