Great now my PS3 is going to be self-conscious! Though it's his fault for just sitting around all day.
Actually my little brother has been saving up for one of these and now he can get a cooler one.

In my opinion the slim looks ugly, I rather get the old model with the new price cut. Only advantage with the slim is the overheating issue and less energy usage. Check out the PS3 slim unboxing vid for a closer look.
Quick question: is playing PS2 games on the PS3 still MIA on the slim version? I know they took it out of the later version of the standard, and had a slim hope they'd put it back, either via software emulation or something.
At launch a person could pick up a 60 gig version with full backwards compatiblility. Once that model was discontinued the 80 gig model offered partial bc. Since then Sony and Microsoft have decided that bc is not improtant to their customers as they both stopped working on getting this feature back into their systems.
AFAIK the new slim will have limited or NO bc.
Having said all of that, I have owned a PS3 for over a year now and I may have put 2 PS2 games in it to play. Backwards Compatiblility was important to me when we picked out the system. The problem is there is little reason to use the bc when I have a working PS2, tons of games and accessories that won't plug into the PS3.
My suggestion would be if you are interested in getting a PS3 don't let bc make or break your decision. There are TONS of downloadable games in the store that will make you forget all about your PS2 games.
Just my 2?.
It's not really (up 'til now, price has been the main issue), but I was half hoping to sell my PS2 should I get a new console. There are a few games I keep coming back to, including some multiplayer stuff I share with friends, and I don't want to ditch them, but t'would be nice to get a little pocket change from the old one.
