Title: Weird Question du Jour
Post by: Glitch Girl on August 18, 2009, 02:30:40 PM
What is a word begining with the letter "N" that means either "Body", "Framework", "Robot", "Machine"  or "Soldier" or something along those lines?

I'm trying to shake off a creative slump by making myself write something, and I need a word that fits this for an acronym I want to use.  Already tried online Thesauruses to no avail, but maybe you guys can think of something a little non-standard.

Maybe use a prefix?
ie Nano-bot, nano-system, or Neo-something.
You can get away with moider using pre-fixes..

Well, "Network" fits with "Framework" or "Machine" somewhat. Using Tommyboy's suggestion, I like "Neurosystem".

Yeah...Network seems to be the way to go.  However, Nano is probably more sexy now...it's the new black.

Does it have to be an English word?

English would be preferable.

A little more info to clarify: this is an ancronym to name a kind of construct, so I don't think "Network" will work.  So far I have "Remotely Operated Neuro-Interfaced N_________"; however, Tommyboy's idea to add "Neo" to something MIGHT work.  Feels a little like cheating, but then again I could always makea remark about how they came up with the acronym before the full name (which let's face it, I did ;) )

What if you say it with a sense of irony?

"Hey, what is this?" Bill questions while pointing at a construct.

"Remotely Operated Neuro-Interfaced Network, a.k.a, R.O.N.I.N." responds Sam.

"'Network'? But it's a construct, ain't it?"

"That's the irony of the situation, Bill. That's the irony."

... yep. ^_^

@Kommando:
Interesting idea but...
3.    a small pellet of colored sugar for decorating candy, cake, and cookies.
4.    a flat, round, bite-sized piece of chocolate covered with this sugar.

One of the women at work is always bringing these in and share's 'em.

Well guys, you've given me a lot to think about, some of it useful.  ;)  I'll let y'all know if and when I finally decide on something so I'm still open to suggestions.

You already have it.

Remotely Operated Neuro-Interface

Or if you really want to stretch it a little...

Remotely Operated Neuro-Interfaced Nautilus
I think calling the construct a chambered shell is fitting.
