Title: Cable Question
Post by: Zippo on August 13, 2009, 09:36:49 PM
So, I was reading the latest issue of Cable, in which:

Spoiler
Cable is almost entirely overcome by the techno-organic virus.

And I was thinking,  "Wait a sec! I thought he got rid of that a long time ago!?"

I know he's lost and regained his techno-organic virus a few times over the years. Just before Messiah Complex, though, wasn't he in one of his uber-powerful states, with full telepathy, TK, and technopathy? Isn't that generally a result of his loss of the virus? He then lost most of those powers, but I was under the impression that it was because he burnt them out again.

So my question is this: When did Cable get reinfected with the techo-organic virus? OR is this simply a case of the writer ignoring/confusing the continuity?

Cable was significantly more powerful during the first two arcs of Cable & Deadpool, then fought the Silver Surfer who blasted his arm off.  Then Cable used the last of his power to prevent his space station Providence from crashing into the ocean. He then went into a form of coma, and Deadpool stole a techno-organic embryo from A.I.M. and grafted onto Cable as a replacement arm. Like the original virus, this caused him to have to use most of his powers to keep the virus from overtaking his body, so his TK/TP use was once again severely limited. He then went about making artificial replacements for his powers with the infonet (kinda like the ability to telepathically access any computer network/the internet) and the Cone of Silence (a miniaturized force field generator).  Mike Carey vaguely referenced the new powers in his X-Men run, and it was also mentioned when Cable appeared in Civil War.  But when Providence was destroyed (during Carey's X-Men), he lost the infonet and Cone of Silence powers. He used low level psychic powers against Stryfe in Messiah War.

Why couldn't Forge whip him up a few limbs?

Because writers forgot Forge existed and he was mostly crazy (-_-) around that time? Not to mention he's a colossal screw-up in the X-men's eyes going by Ellis's Astonishing X-men run. Also, it's DP... I don't think he even knows Forge. ^^

I'd have to double check but I'm pretty sure this isn't the case. I'm pretty sure he just burned out his powers during the Burnt Offering and that the new embryo was benign.

Actually Forge did appear and help Cable later on. I'm pretty sure a techno-organic entity was required to be capable with the rest of the mesh rather than just getting Forge to build an arm. Of course Forge's powers technically allow him to build anything so meh.

Forge is so mistreated!  He was the man back in the 80's early 90's.   He should have had Cable up and running in no time.

I think that was true myself. But I kinda feel we can write this off as Stryfe trying to mess Cable up. Kinda like: "Haha! Your new benign technoorganic parts are not so benign anymore!"
