Maybe something went wrong with the update. You can try running that again if you haven't already.

Probably another program you installed which overwrote msvcrt.dll with an older version (or a DLL cache problem ? not sure how ?DL-Hell? works on XP).

Problem solved. It was some sort of malicious software that STOPZilla found and eliminated. At first it was this error message and then it was a blue screen telling me that Windows was shutting down to prevent damage to my computer.
