Title: Return to Rapture
Post by: BentonGrey on June 26, 2009, 03:00:21 PM
Bioshock 2!  That's right, they are actually surprisingly close to finishing the sequel to Bioshock, which all faithful Irrational fans played and loved.  Anyone thinking about this new chapter?  Apparently in the main campaign you play as the original Big Daddy, Rosie.  That sounds pretty cool, and the campaign itself sounds interesting, but the multiplayer bothers me just a bit.  I really loved the depth and weight of the original game.  You really felt like you were doing something good by freeing those children.  You'll get a similar option in the new one, but in multiplayer, you're basically just playing one of the first generation of splicers.  There is no moral imperative, there is no cause to strive for....you're just killing people as part of a "products testing" initiative.  That doesn't sit very well with me.  Thoughts?

  Maybe you shouldn't play multiplayer.

I was unimpressed by the first one. Right around the time they started making me take pictures of my enemies, I gave up. Before coming back to finish my video card exploded.

I'm surprsied to hear that BWPS.  I believe you're the only person I've talked to who didn't like it.  Now, I'm not saying that I won't play multiplayer, just that I was hoping they'd find a way to give it a bit more meaning.

If u ask me, bioshock was one of the best FPS I`ve played in my life. That being said I can`t wait for 2, but for single player only, I probably won`t even try the multiplayer.

Heard lots about Bioshock but never played it. I also haven't played Mass Effect and I hear there is a sequel coming out for that as well. I have played Too Human and loved it, were is the sequel for that?

I have no idea. Many Too Human fans would like to know that as well, but so far, Silicon Knights isn't talking.

I definitely will not be playing a sequel.

The first Bioshock was a fantastic game. However, I don't think it really held my interest that much to be all that excited about a sequel. In fact, the only reason why I was ever interested in the first game was because of the hype, and the fact that the Freedom Force developers were behind it. It's by far one of the best made games this generation, but for me personally, I just didn't think it was as fantastic as most of the fans claim it is. Multiplayer could be a lot of fun with plasmids, but it's just not enough to really get me that excited. I'll probably see what people think of this game first, and then wait till the price drops a bit.

I'm much more interested in Mass Effect 2, and to a lesser extent Assassin's Creed 2 this year.

On the flip side of things, Too Human was by far the most disappointing game I've played in a while. It had it's moments that I truly liked, but there were just way too many "WTF" moments involving several questionably bad game design decisions. I'd still like to see and play a sequel, but only if Silicon Knights addresses the many, many issues the first game had.

I don't do multiplayer.

The first Bioshock told a fantastic story (and it didn't hurt that it was a huge slam on Objectivisim, a political philosophy that I despise).  Based on that, I will be playing the second one because I trust these folks to tell me another fantastic story.

Well, while the story was pretty good, the SETTING was what really shined.  In fact, the story elements that were the strongest were actually just building the world that you were moving around in.  It isn't so much the story of the protagonist as the story of the death of a dream.

Yup. Some revelations near the end are shocking!
