has anyone done this and is it easy enough, i'm running out of space and was looking into it. but honestly i don't want to fubar up my console, can't afford a new pne

I would check into a portable hard drive. Something you can plug in and back up your data. That way you can keep your PS3's hard drive nice and clean.
