Man, I was laughing just watching the preview, with the new voices.  I'm glad they brought back the Curse VAs, they pretty much nailed the characters.  It looks like the new ones are in good hands.  I haven't gotten any of their episodic games so far, but I have to have me some more Monkey Island!  Escape wasn't so great, but I have hopes that the new episodic one will be terrific, plus the remake is a must-have.

I am STOKED! Monkey Island was one of my favorite series. The Curse of MI being one of my all time favorite games. I'll definitely be picking up these.

Don't hate me.....I never played the game.  I heard so much about it, but I never picked it up.

I guess I'm on a hunt to find the old games now before this one comes out.

QuoteI guess I'm on a hunt to find the old games now before this one comes out.

Not necessary.  We are talking about two different things here, one of which is a remake of the original game, so just grab that one and you're all set.  You can even play the original game with original graphics in the remake if you really want to, plus you'd be able to get to it work with modern computers.

Actually, MI is a pretty easy series to jump into anyways.  I mean the new one is set after a non-existent game anyways.

nice to see a new monkey island story, but if the next 4 parts are as short as the first it's a little dissapointing, i'd advise against playing on full screen and high res cos you can see gaps in all the mesh work >_>
funny, but a lil too much pulling on modern day pop culture in my oppinion

Here's hoping Grim Fandango gets a remake.  That was the first game I played that I thought, "This would be a great movie."

Grim Fandango! now that would be awesome.
To all Monkey Island fan: Lucasart as openly stated that if this new game sells well, not only they would make folluw-up but also....
more remake: Day of The Tentacle () , Maniac Mansion and many others.
So please buy the game

Sigh.

There are two different things here.  One is a remake, the other is a new series of mini games. Both are being released around the same time.  I'm pretty sure it's the remake that needs to sell well.

In any case, I do plan on buying both.

I don't know. I'm not a hardcore gamer but it took me 3-4 hours to finish... times 5 that's 15-20 hours for someone like me. That seems right up there with most modern games. And I saw a few mesh quirks, but Im not a Mesh guy so it was really nothing that bugged me. There were a few pop culture jokes that were pretty obvious, but there also were a few (especially one involving a sock) that I have been using at work a lot. So all in all I really enjoyed it. Its a fun Monkey Island game that if anything suffers from being a little too easy in some spots, and of being a decent sequel but missing the touch of the original creators.... And Murray. It needs Murray.

I had so much fun playing those Indy games.

Luckily I found a LucasArts game box at goodwill several years ago for like $2. So i have the disks for most of the games.
I still have never finished The Dig. I kept getting stuck on a puzzle... I should pull that out again.

it's great that Lucasarts is re-releasing these games via digital download. However, I pretty much own them all, so I probably won't be buying any besides the remakes.

As for Monkey Island 5, I'm glad that the series is back, but I honestly don't like the episodic trend going on. It works in Sam & Max, but now you have to pay full price for one episode and wait for the rest to be released, all because it's one larger over-arching storyline? Um, then why not just release the full game all at once?

Sorry, I love MI and all, but I think I'll wait until all episodes are released before buying, much like what I did when Sam & Max came out. Having to pay all at once for an episodic game seems like a crappy thing to do.

You don't, actually.

You can buy each episode individually, but you'll get a price break if you buy them all at once.

As for the Episode itself, other than it commits the sin of re-using a puzzle (and not a particularly good one) and compounds it my making the new puzzle badly clued, it's vintage MI, and I loved it.

not on my steam, one price only, individual items have no buy option, only a link to the pack.

The company's main website does have an option for individual downloads.  Didn't even know they sold on Steam.

either way, I just wish they'd come out with a full game instead of just episodes. Eventually I'll get this, just probably not right away.

Now, I'm debating which platform to get the Secret remake on. I love my 360 and achievements, but part of me wants to get it on PC since I have all the other games on there. What do you guys think would be the better platform to play it on?

Because that's not that way this company does things.  They are basically an indie company the made good.  They don't have the resources to throw into an all out full length game, but they can throw out smaller chunks, recuperate the money from those and use it to fund the next chunks.

Yeah I had no idea it was on Steam, I just bought it form Telltale.
It was $35 pre-order, and you get all five downloads as they become available, plus a DVD of the whole thing once all five parts are released.

I just tried out the demo to Tales.

What is up with the control scheme? UGH! It's almost as goofy as Escape's and Grim Fandango's. Sure, you can click on objects again, but why didn't they just stick with what worked wonderfully in Sam & Max? I also didn't like LeChuck's new voice actor. Why couldn't they get Earl Boen back?

The humor still seems to be there, but that control scheme is annoying. Is it better in the actual game?

personal gripe: I wish both Escape and Tales stuck with what Curse did. I thought the graphics in that game were superb and fit Monkey Island perfectly. Not everything has to be 3D to work, but maybe that's just me.

I'd prefer 2d cartoon graphics as well, but this company has never done anything like that, as far as I know.

I believe you're thinking of 'Curse'. Escape (the 4th) was definitely 3D and definitely didn't look anywhere near as good as Curse. Or the first two.

that picture reminds me of how much they wasted Murray in Escape.  :( Definitely a funny concept, but god, he was so funny in Curse I couldn't believe how little they featured him in Escape.

But back to Tales...why oh why did they pick this control scheme? Its really not good...

ok, so I finally decided to suck it up and get this (picked up Sam and Max season 2 while I was at it. I know its well over a year old, but I thought it'd go to retail stores like the first one. Guess not). I'm still not a huge fan of the control scheme, but thankfully I am getting used to it. It's better than Escape's, but I still wish they would have stayed with what was great in Sam & Max. Still, so far I'm glad I got it (demo almost turned me off completely). The graphics I actually had to turn down a bit just so it would run smooth, which surprised me, since I can run Call of Duty 4 pretty good on my system, but Tales, which obviously is less demanding in graphics, had more difficulty. Weird.

So, has anyone played Telltale's Homestar Runner game? I'm thinking of getting that too sometime, but wanted to know if it's any good.

why am I the only one still posting in this thread? lol

anyways, just wanted to give you guys a heads-up. Today, September 19th, is international Talk-Like-A-Pirate day, and to celebrate, Telltale is offering episode one of Tales of Monkey Island FREE. That's right, FREE, so pick it up if you haven't yet. Also, if you've already purchased the season, Telltale is offering a FREE episode coupon for any other game series. I already have the Sam & Max seasons, as well as Strong Bad's game, so I picked up the first episode of Wallace & Gromit. This is a great deal and I'm really liking Telltale a LOT lately.

also, if you didn't know, episode 1 of Tales of MI has a "Treasure hunt" mode where you can find treasures and you get bonus prizes on their website. Some of the idol combinations (you'll know what I'm talking about once you do it) are trial and error, but if you get them all (it's really easy) you can get a 50% of any season of another Telltale game, plus 50% a single episode of another series, and some other goodies. It's really worth checking out.

also, episode 3 is coming out on September 29th! I can't wait.

is anyone else playing these games or is it just me? lol

also, I really, really want a Monkey Island 2 Special Edition. The first one was awesome and it sold well, and LucasArts just released their second batch of adventure games on Steam (Indiana Jones and The Dig).

hoooo can we have a link to the free episode + coupon offer? sounds interesting...

edit: so i find the file. and big disapointement. you have to create an account, giving up an email and password and guess what?

QuoteOnce the download is complete, install the game on your PC and log in using the email & password that you provided on the previous page.

if i have to give an email and to be log in to play, that not a free game. either you give it or you sell it. but don't try to spam me, ans stay the Eff away from constant-login play. once you give the product i should be able to unplug my internet connection and play as i want.

I didn't realize it made you do this. The actual purchase of the game doesn't make you do this, and neither does any of the other Telltale games. That's odd that this free episode is making you log in.

Alright, having played ep 1 for a while, here's my thoughts.

This is the real Monkey Island!  The puzzles are classic MI weird logic, the jokes are actually funny, and Guybrush doesn't come off as a useless buffoon, in short, it's everything Escape should have been.  I also dig the new look, 3d, but still cartoony.  The only thing I don't like is the new controls for moving guybrush around, but I can deal with that.  I'll have to check out some of their other games now.

yeah, I love the new game now. It's not quite as good as the first three, but definitely better than the fourth.

right now, my favorite Telltale game is definitely Sam and Max season 2. That game was firing on all cylinders and made me laugh out loud a ton. Dare I say...I think it might actually be better than Hit the Road. That game had much harder puzzles, but Season 2 was just too hysterical. I loved every moment of it. Only thing about it is you need to play Season 1 to get a lot of the jokes. Season 1 was good, but Season 2 blows it away.

Got to Murray finally, and I must say that they nailed him perfectly.  After Escape, it's good to have the real Murray back again.  The only thing missing is his catchphrase.  He hasn't said it once.  Oh well, I'll still take it though.

EDIT:  Just finished it.  Loved having Murray at the closing credits.  First time I actually sat through all those.

you should always sit through the credits, because there's always an extra scene at the end of them. Glad to hear you liked Murray. And I completely agree that he's back in full form. He was a waste in Escape, but he's made an awesome comeback.

I think Episode 3 finally hit the "Monkey Island" stride. The first two were fun and enjoyable but it wasn't until this one that I think they finally nailed it. A lot of that was because of Murray... One of the greatest video game characters ever.

I agree, but just adding to what you said, I think DeCava and his crew mates were much more memorable "Monkey Island-esque" characters than anyone featured on Flotsam or Jerkbait.

in case anyone still reads this thread, the fifth and final chapter will be released on December 8th. After that, you should be able to pick up a DVD with all the episodes and some extras for a small shipping price, just like with TellTale's previous games.

I must be the only one still playing these games. Just beat the finale this weekend. It was a great run while it lasted. Chapter 5 tied up the first season nicely, but it's still left pretty open as not everything is answered. My favorite episode is still episode 3, followed by 4, then 5, 1, and 2. And if you wait till the very end of the cutscene at the end of the credits, TellTale pretty much announced their next game, which shouldn't be that much of a surprise.

It's Sam & Max Season 3.

I'm bumping this topic instead of creating a new one.

They remade Monkey Island 2! You can get it on Steam or XBLA now for $10. I already bought it and beat it and just as you expected, it's awesome. They made a few cuts, however. The opening credits aren't there, and the iMuse system of music transitions is missing (but apparently can be easily patched). But it's nothing to gripe about.

I have to admit though, I've been around to other MI message boards, and this series has a lot of...well, idiotic fans. Lots of people pretend the rest of the series isn't canon because Ron Gilbert left the series, as if they're personal friends of his or something. I really, really don't get it, and it really irks me that they write off every other game. I'll never understand fanboyism.
