So I was running to class today, and I was coming up the stairs when I realized my backpack was dangerously open, and my laptop was in danger of falling out. I took my backpack off, carefully placed it on the stairs to zip it up, and it fell out and down four or five stone and metal stairs. Yelping an explitive I grabbed it and run up the stairs, and I found myself telling the computer it was going to be alright. When I booted it up to test it and everything appeared to be working, I realized I was telling the computer it was a "good girl."
So apparently I see my computer as a) mildy personified and b) feminine. Is this odd? Does anyone else do that?
Me and a buddy refer to our computers as our Spanish "Ladies of the Night". We'll use that term since I'm sure the other one is censored here, heh. Whenever we upgrade we make jokes about the old one being too leathery an used up for us now.
I've talked to all my computers. I give them a name (Compy) and everything.
I have never looked at my computer as anything more than that stupid machine that occasionally irritates me.
Well there are obviously a lot of sickos on these boards! :o
I'm going to have to be very careful before I log on here again with Ermintrude.
First computer I ever got I called Frankenstein, because it was made from the corpses of other, dead computers. Every one since has incorporated parts from the pervious one (hard drives, video cards, power supplies, memory), so it is now Frankenstein 2007. I do not believe there are any pieces of the original computer in it, though.
Took a computer class, and it ws one of those where it didn't matter how or from whom you learned the info, just so long as you learned it. One of the ladies (who had never used a computer before) said that she would always remember one thing I said: a computer is just a stupid machine, so strangling it with its own power cord, while momentarily satisfying, doesn't really hurt it, and will make everyone in the office talk about you.
I have a guitar called Hayley.
I have a girlfriend called Hayley too.
I get them mixed up.

I
had a girlfriend called Hailey...I'd say I would have been better off with a guitar.
My PC is my baby, I suppose. I've put a lot of work into it, so I can understand that a bit....the fact that it's a she? Well, that's something else. ;)
Mines actually a guy, called Maki. Since he's in the corner of the room, under the desk, in the darkest place in the room, I imagine him to be a hobbit like creature continually humming "miiiinnneeee".
My Macbook's the girl. She's called Tarlna and is shiny, but is temperamental ^_^
EDIT: Sadly, I named all my harddrives after starships. C is Enterprise, D is Deep Space Nine, E is Voyager, I have a usb stick called Calypso (heh), and the server is known as starbase 12 >_>
...Ok, I think I understand why people keep telling me to see a psychiatrist
All of my computers have names and I have a Nissan Altima I call Annie. Annie the Altima. My truck is a male, so I just call him Truck. And yes I find myself talking to them every now and then.

Okay I am actually impressed there.
My truck is "The Truckmobile." And I talk to it all the time.
Oddly enough, all my comuter stuff is named after Mystery Science Theater 3000 stuff. My media server is the SoL (Satillite of Love, which is itself a reference to an old Lou Reed song), my PC is Crow (T. Robot), the family one is (Tom) Servo, my webcam is setup as Cambot, and my security camera is "Rocket # 9."
I think I have a problem.
I named my first laptop computer after my first high school crush, Latoya. I got her last year...can't believe she is almost a year old...time goes so fast.
I've gone further with this laptop than I ever got with the girl..and at least my laptop doesn't smoke...but there are other features it lacks...which i won't get in to.

Like how the laptop keeps you warm at night? Really,....laptops gets warm when use for a long time.......what?
Majel was my first computer, followed by Majel 2. My current one would have been Majel 3 except for the blue glowing ring around the power button, and thusly it was dubbed "Tony".
Tony so far is the most fickle of the three. Go fig.
I name my chef knives... Mr. Henkels is my chef knife which would have cost me about $100+ if it did not have a refurbished handle. We have been through a lot, I thought I lost it moving and an ex-girlfriend called me out of the blue and when I went over to hang out well there was my knife...
Then there is Kenichi, named after Chen Kenichi, Iron Chef Chinese. It is a huge, extremely sharp cleaver I purchased in chinatown, all one solid piece of metal. I actually cleaved a chopping board by accident with it once. I try to use it a lot to build up skill, like last night I used it to cut paper thin slices of garlic which I rolled some salmon in before steaming it.
I've got more but those are my two favorites, although I think I have posted pictures of Michiba, my sushi knife.

Suprised you haven't named one Sakai...

I once worked in a school where all the servers were named after spaceships. They had about 15 servers, almost a whole fleet!

None are worthy yet, Sakai is the man. Maybe when I get a proper boning knife.
