Do you get an entire comic series, or select individual issues? The first hundered or so issues of most silver age comics would be worth it, as would things like Spider-Man and FF Annuals #1 (s), The Master Planner sequence from Spider-Man, The big Hulk/Thing battle in FF 24-25, The WW II Captain America stories from Tales of Suspense, The first appearence of Galactus, The Steranko-illustrated SHIELD stories, the Neal Adams X-Men, most of the original Silver Surfer comics.

If available, you might check out all those Marvelous B&W magazine published 'way back in the '70s (Monsters Unleashed, Tales of the Zombie, Vampire Tales, Dracula Lives, Deadly Hands of Kung Fu...)

Those are just of the top of my head. For more recent stuff, someone else needs to chime in.

I didn't emntion Conan, but I enjoyed most of the B&W adventures, although the color series kind of petered out after awhile. Chuck Dixon, while fine on just about everything else I ever read of his, just didn't really do an exciting Conan.

If you haven't read the original 12 issues of Young Avengers, I recommend doing so.

Mark Gruenwald's Squadron Supreme, Warren Ellis' Nextwave. Two very different takes on what it's like to be a mask. Both also brilliant.

Not really sure, would have te delve into my back issues to be sure, but I think Deadpool #11 would definitely have to be on that list.  This is the issue when Deadpool and Blind Al travel back in time to Spider-Man #47.

Come to think of it, the Kelly run on Deadpool is a must-read in my book.

Nextwave, that was a great series too.  Read the trades and loved 'em.

Lots of good stuff here (I second Nexwave and GEN-X) and I would check if they have any old marvel comics presents... those ran the Weapon X wolverine origin story which is chilling, a better Frankenstein story than Frankenstein. And it ran with a Nick Fury vs Dracula story, a Shanna the She Devil story illustrated by Paul Gulacy and some other good daredevil, hulk and iron man stories.

If this is not available I would look for early 90's X-Men, they are maligned as part of the whole 90's thing but I think they where quite good. Age of Apocalypse, pre clone Spidey, anything involving the Great Lakes Avengers and I doubt they have MAX titles (do they?) but Punisher Max and Alias are some of the best comics of the last 10 years.

oh yeah...

Other than Generation X as a series, try out these specific issues of other titles-

Wolverine #72-74, early 90s. Wolverine and Jubilee return to the Australian outback to search the abandoned X-Mansion from that location... however, they end up wandering around the base of the Reavers and Lady Deathstrike and become trapped in a huge Sentinel hive/factory. The two of them do some very awesome teamwork in dealing with the sentinels, and Jubilee also finds out who was responsible for killing her parents. Great read.

Wolverine #125- Jubilee, Kitty Pryde, and Lockheed join forces to protect Wolverine from the Viper and brainwashed versions of Jean Grey, Psylocke, Rogue, Tyger Tyger, and Yukio... very cool artwork and storyline.

I definitely approve of early Marvel Comics Presents.   There are a lot of Wolverines adventures in Madripoor under his disguise as Patch,  some of the best Wolvie stories in my opinion since he wasn't an immortal at that time. Also you can find Heckler and Captain Ultra back-up stories :D

In those Madripoor stories it is a dramatic turn of events when Wolvie gets stabbed... he was a lot more vulnerable and as such a lot more interesting. I actually have an entire run of MCP, got it like for $20 off ebay. That's why I tell people not to sell their comics on ebay, unless they want me to buy them from them for less than a buck an issue.

I looked at some of the available comics and while there is no MAX stuff I'm impressed. I tried being an early adopter with the marvel digital comics but you guy's might remember the early days when it just did not work. After looking at the alphabetical list I would like to add Astonishing X-Men, New X-Men, Punisher Vs Bullseye, She-Hulk, X-Statix, Marvel Zombies (will it be censored?)... I think this friday I'm getting a year suscription.

Ok, they fixed my account today. This actually looks really cool... I've already queued up the first issue of a bunch of series between 1998 and 2006 and a bunch of old Frank Miller Daredevil comics. Also I added New X-Men, I loved that series but I only own a couple of issues, honestly I just read the whole thing at the public library (The one in downtown Boston is not bad but not that amazing either when it comes to comics).

I have an account on there. I've been trying to read through the Wolverine MCP stories too. I also tried to read through the early Lee/Kirby FF stories, but hadn't gotten back to reading them in a while.

I've no idea how extensive their library is, but I'd highly recommend Jim Starlin's Adam Warlock for some old school but ahead of its time psychedelic cosmic adventure.

And if that tickles your fancy, progress to Star Lord by Byrne and Claremont.

These two used to appear in the back of Star Wars Weekly when I was ten or so, and turned me on to the existence of another world... a world full of comics....

Because I'm still thrilled I decided to look up what they have from Starlin and it looks like they have Infinity Gauntlet, War, Abyss and Crusade together with a Thanos miniseries. Actually I got into reading comics around the time of Infinity Gauntlet (I was 12) and it was really cool, so I might go revisit that series and a couple of the spin offs.

Last night I started reading the new Iron Fist series and it is really cool, I just wish they had Max titles. Seriosly there should be some way they can work in some good age restrictions, because I missed a few Max series that looked really cool.

I really enjoyed the entire Garth Ennis' Punisher MAX run, which was collected in 8 or so trades.

JMS and Coipel's Thor. Without Oliver's art is just doesn't have the same impact for me.

I read about 5 issues of the new immortal Iron Fist series while my girlfriend worked on homework... unfortunately she was working on my computer so I had to read 'em standing up in the living room at the computer I have hooked up to a TV as an entertainment center. The pirate queen issue was incredibly cute and cool, I really like what they are doing with that series.

Also they have the first 100 issues of Spiderman, Fantastic Four and a ton of Early X-Men and Avengers. I hear there are some good issues in those runs

If they've got any of the issues of the Stern/Byrne run on Captain America, which was much too short, sadly, give those a read. Captain America #253-254 is one of my favorite two-parters of all time.

DEFINITELY read the early Avengers books, at least 'till around the 200s.  They are a bit Stan Lee-ish at first (exposition heavy), but they are still a lot of fun.

DEFINITELY read the early Thor books.  I've only gone up to around 50, but everything I've gotten my hands on in that series was fantastic.

Read Thor ESPECIALLY if they include Tales of Asgard. Whne Stan and Jack started their Norse version of The Oddesy (which also introduced The Warriors Three), they started producing some really great high fantasy adventure. Even Vince Coletta's inks were better on the series than his usual work.

Yeah, those are some really great stories!

Literal answer: Agent X (the one's Gail Simone wrote) are the best comic series ever.
Ed Brubaker's Captain America is also great.
