Title: Level Design Help
Post by: BentonGrey on May 08, 2009, 08:23:38 PM
Howdy guys, I could use a little inspiration if y'all have any to spare.  I have an Aquaman level in which he needs to escape from a dungeon.  I will obviously have a few guard posts he has to get by, but I was wondering what kinds of traps to throw at him.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Is the dungeon underwater?

This may not be what you are thinking of, but I always thought Aquaman would be right for a mission where he is trapped but he has to "talk" to the dolphins or other aquatic life to bring him help, open the cage, trick the guards into chasing them, etc.

This is oversimplified, but imagine he is caged and he can break free of the cage in several attacks, but whenever he tries, a guard notices, taunts him, then shocks/stuns him via some remote device and then the damage to the cage is repaired. But Arthur has a custom action on himself to "summon help" (e.g. a dolphin). When it comes, he has custom actions where he can have the helper try several things (like attack the guard, attack the cage, etc.), and not all of them work. But, one of them draws the guard away from his post long enough to get in several attacks on the cage without being stopped by the shock/repair process.

Anyway, I was replaying DrMike's Strangers campaign recently and I enjoyed several of the levels where you had to figure things out and not all of the direct approaches worked.

Grem, I think for simplicity sake it won't be.  Stumpy, that is a really, really cool idea!  However, I haven't been able to get the art assets I need for Aquamans' finny friends yet.  That would be pretty darn cool though...I wonder how I could manage that with EZScript.

Didn't Texas Jack's Beast Boy/Changeling have a dolphin form? has anyone ever extracted that form like they did the gorilla, elephant and rhino?

Well, I found 3D models that will work just fine, but they needed to be set up to work with FF.  Real life got in the way of that project, as it tends to do.  In the interim, I'm trying to think of some interesting traps that would be employed by a culture that uses magic and technology.  I'm think you'll have to navigate this level by a circituitious route, and some places should be blocked off by traps.  Flame throwers make the most obvious ones, since Aquaman is weak to fire.  Other suggestions?

How about electrical or stasis traps?

Robot tentacles that stick out of the walls and grab you.
