it's a very fun game. it is the sort where when you lose, you say, 'one more try, it was so close, i'll get him this time.' and when you win a fight, you get a new power you just have to try out in a new fight.
so, this is what is distracting me from creating things.
i bought it, but it has a free demo.

The "master" thing has nothing to do with winning or losing the fight- as near as I can determine, your first opponent (ssumed to be the person who got you into the game) is always your "master".
Here's mine: http://uncle-yuan.mybrute.com
I do think it would be a lot more fun if you could choose your stats and level-up bonus. As it is, eveything is completely random and you don't have much investment in your brute.

Anyone know?
Registration must have run out fast. I didn't even get a chance to get in before it was full.
BTW: I just noticed one of my pupils is a pineapple. (Hi DYAM ;) )
The weapon to get is the big gnarly caveman club. I made a brute called welsh rabbit, and he hits for 20-40 damage with that sucker. Hasn't lost a fight yet. Some he wins with 2 hits. It's like thor's hammer, on steroids, steeped in distilled hatred. It is win.

Just today, for the first time.
I have horrible luck at this game. My main Brute has two not-so-great weapons and a very minor ability, that occasionally improves his survivability slightly. I have another Brute who has a club, one of the most potent weapons in the game, but refuses to use it, almost always fighting bare handed. When he does pull it out, it's at the end of the fight, when it's too late, or else he drops it immediately after pulling it out. Once, he pulled it out, hit his opponent once, than just stood there and let his opponent beat him up for the rest of the fight. And yet, I'm still having fun...
One does like to gloat.
I repeat: The flail is win.
I have two brutes, one for each of my cats. Fat Daffy has bad luck and cruddy weapons. Super Mimi has a whip and very high speed. If she pulls that out she rarely loses. One of my "throwaway guys" had the hammer which was more potent than the club, I thought. I'll have to check the wiki to see if that's true or not.
Went on a rampage the last 2 days :P
I defeated Lugaruclone, RTTingle, JeyNyce, Glitch-Girl and Uncle Yuan. I was not able to beat The Vowel though but I tried him on before I got my first weapon... a fan hehe, pretty cool looking weapon and it kinda work like the knife for what I can tell.
My brute is slowy starting to be good, the first few levels were brutal I only had extra-thick skin and a net (which is totally awesome if you face a brute with a pet btw), then I got feline agility (yay!) and at lvl 4 armour, that's pretty much when I started to be able to win fights hehe and now that I have a weapon it's getting more fun watching my fights.
I logged on a 7:30 AM CST and got both my cats, erm, my cat's brutes into a tournament. I hope they pick up some experience.

Fought the bear and had my butt handed to me.
Just played this morning and some guy just threw a bomb at me......how rude!
My biggest complaint would be that your brute gets no XP if challenged, or in the tournament (unless I'm missing something).
I'll often see a half dozen people have challenged my brute but get nothing for it.
It seems the quickest way to progress is to get lots of pupils, as each time one levels up you get a point.
I also noticed if you challenge a brute of a lower level, a win only gets you 1 point, not 2. Makes me wonder if you get more for challenging and winning against a higher level brute.
My favourite "power" so far? Weapon stealing.
Best weapon seen? The hammer. 70+ points of damage. Ouchie.
And yes, having a bear would be teh kewlar. My dog is OK, but a bear would be even yet still more betterer.
Quote from: tommyboy on May 06, 2009, 02:10:36 PMMakes me wonder if you get more for challenging and winning against a higher level brute.
I've done it. Only got the usual 2 points.

I believe it has do do with how many fights you have left. If you are out of fights, others can challenge you, but you get no XP. If you still have fights, I think you do. Not certain though, but I'm pretty sure I've gotten XP from others fighting me.
Wow that Lightning bolt perk is nice. I sometimes get 3 hits in each time I attack. Just FYI, the Tournament for May 8th is open.
I have a brute, named Blackraven 71 (I use the screen name Blackraven71 at the TAPS 18+ board, but I found out about the game somewhere else).
I don't like the fact that the game is too uneven. I've got 3 weapons, but most of the time my brute starts out using the worst one, and I only have one skill; the one that looks like a colored version of Johnny Cage's shadow attacks from the Mortal Kombat games. But I've lost fights I should have won easily because the opponent started with a pet; I even fought another lvl 1 with a pet, but I didn't gain a skill until lvl 3.
The game would be MUCH better if you got to pick which weapon your brute selects to use.
It is very random, and while a little control would be nice, I'm betting it would require a system control rewrite of epic proportions. Maybe someday.
Starting to encounter the weird weapons. I have fought brutes who have:
-broken tennis racket
-computer keyboard
-leek (or something in the onion family)
-small pink chick (though he never used it on me)
Lol I just got a new power that turns pets against their owners, worked very well when I fought a guy with a bear.
Starting with level 5, UY starting winning most fights. He has few weapons but good general stats (esp speed), great HP. Just pinged Level 6 and picked up flail!! Only good for a whack or two, but at 40+ HP a whack, it doesn't take many. He also has the shield and the staff - both great defensive pieces. When he has both out he almost never gets hit!
Add to weird weapons:
-Noodle Bowl
-Trombone
BTW anyone near leve 10 yet? I'm level 8 with half an XP bar filled so it'll be a bit for me if anyone's farther along. Reason I ask is that I think at level 10 you can make a clan.
I was thinking of the name "Gratuitous Fight Scene". What do y'all think?

Woo, that was awesome.
I just beat Detourne, who had the caveman club and a shield, but nothing but my staff. My guy actually manage to dodge every attack but one.
Shouldbe level 10 in a few days, at which time I'm gonna start the clan.

I liked the "Gratuitous Fight Scene" proposal.
http://preraphaelite.mybrute.com
After losing 4 battles in a row, I came to the conclusion that my moustachiod character was perhaps more of a debonaire lover than a fighter.
Still, he did get a sai in the end. Those are fun weapons:

How about... um... Oh! I know! How about Glitchy's Gout-ridden Gladiators? Just kind of came to me. It has a certain ring to it.
I was thinking of something more indicative of the source, like Fighters Reborn, or something. But I'll go along with whatever you decide.
On another note I found this
EDIT: Nevermind, it's horrible
A greasemonkey script that lets you do things like create a list of opponents and easily go to you enemies' cells before deciding to challenge them.
Freedom Fighters Reborn! I am down with having a potentially terrifying name.
Well, I'm trying to stay away from "Freedom Reborn" or varients, simply because I don't think I have any control over who joins the clan, so just in case, I'd like to only be loosely affiliated.
@Alaric: :P
http://aresff.mybrute.com
Eh, forget that greasemonkey script. It makes it so you can't watch any battles, which is that fun part of the whole thing. Don't use it.
To heck with the bear - that wolf sucks!!!!!!
What are you talking about Cat? I installed it and have been watching all the resulting battles. (NOTE: I've been manually going to the arena instead of using the "battle" button so that may make a difference, but I like seeing the stats beforehand so I don't... oh, challenge someone with both a flail AND a bear)
With me all battles are skipped. I can't even rewatch them. But if it works better for everyone else, then go for it.
Okay I hit level 10, but the 9:00 maintenance shutdown kicked in before I could see about making a clan. (plus I only got an Agility upgrade, third single upgrade so far, bleah) Tomorrow I should have a clan for us.
Let us know when, I'll be happy to join.

Not one whit - the whole exercise is essentially random. The only thing you really have any control over is who you fight.
For the record, we have 24 brutes in our clan so far, which is equal to about 200 points/levels. Go us! :)
I was wondering how the points thing worked. Seems like I've been level 9 forever, but I think 10 is right around the corner. Anyone ranked yet? The furthest I've made in a tourney is the 5th round.
For the 5th time in a row, I get squat for leveling up.
Increased endurance, big fat whoop.
I swear, if I hadn't made the clan with this character, I'd just ditch it and start over.

No reason why you can't. Feel free to use UY to kick off the new brute: http://uncle-yuan.mybrute.com :D
But that is a drag.
I just got a rather awesome ability - sabotage. Each hit removes one of your opponents stored weapons. So fun to watch this huge stack dwindle to nothing after I pull out my knife.
My JeyNyce brute is a lvl 10 and is losing every fight, while my lvl 8 brute (The-Tek) is mopping the floor with everybody, even JeyNyce!
or you could do what I did and set up a second account as a pupil for your weak account... I didn't really get anything new for the last 3 levels (I got a net, which basically just negates pets) and I wanted to level faster, so...

-small pink chick (though he never used it on me)

Add to weird weapons:
-Noodle Bowl
-Trombone
I've been hit with a tennis racket, a trumpet (could be a trombone, but I didn't think I saw a slide), and someone threw some small pink things at me (more of a lob throw than a knife throw). I've also been hit with a fan, but at least that has some historical reference to being a weapon. I've seen a couple of other things in people's "armory" that they never used on me that looked very non-standard.

Anyone ranked yet? The furthest I've made in a tourney is the 5th round.
One of my "students" made it to the 6th round today. Of course, he was the one that started out with a bear.
Okay, I'm in.

Starting to encounter the weird weapons. I have fought brutes who have:
-broken tennis racket
-computer keyboard
-leek (or something in the onion family)
-small pink chick (though he never used it on me)

I've now also been hit with a frying pan, and the leek. However, I guess to make up for that, one of my "students" just got the leek as a weapon!
My current unfavorite special ability for an opponent to have is Hypnosis - it makes any animal companions you have switch sides. This first got used on my "student" that started with the bear....and the opponent already had a bear! :o Not pretty. :(
Having now participated, I'm starting to wonder what the point is. You have no control over any part of this game except the name of your brute, what they look like, how often you play, who you fight, and how many people you manage to con into signing up as your pupil.
I can't see that there's anything stopping you from creating an unlimited number of pupils yourself, if you want. I created Angri-La as a pupil, and that brute contributes to Blue-Bash's experience points. Methinks I'll look for the ToS...
It's visually fun to watch for now, but it's going to get old real fast.
Hm. Can't find a ToS, if such a thing exists. And experimentation suggests I can create as many pupils as I want.

Of course, you have to play them if they're going to help your main character advance . . . I'd already thought of that strategy, but frankly don't enjoy the game so much to put myself through running the cycle daily. As it is, my one character is 90 seconds of brainless fun a day, which is plenty.
But I agree. If we could just pick our bonuses when we level up, it would bring a lot more investment to the character and game.
But, alas, the whole point of the game is that there is no point. It's just a nice little diversion. You could create an endless army of pupils, but that would be way too time consuming. I'm guessing it's more set up for folks that like to post the link to their characters on community sites kind of like those vampire games you see on many forums.
But the real control you have is over who to fight...a bit of a rock, scissors, and paper choice. The random powers/stats are a bit of a mixed blessing. It keeps everyone from making that "perfect build" uber tank mage that almost every customizable game suffers from. No, this one is RPG lite, and is a pleasant way to waste 5 minutes a day (for 2 characters).
The game is lacking options in XP earning. It'd be nice if you could earn say 3 XP for fighting a higher level character; or 1 XP for surviving an attack (of course that'd encourage finding the 3 characters you could always beat and spamming them every day); or maybe some other XP opportunity like Clan battles. At the end of the day tho, it's not all that consuming, which is probably better for me.

I made two pupils for my main character, but only the first one gives their "master" any xp bonus when they level up.
FYI... for anyone playing who wonders what all of those weapons and bonuses do...

Timely info. I almost got beat by a coffee cup wielding brute.
I got to level 14 and was "rewarded" by about 5 points of endurance, which is exactly what my last 4 or 5 level ups have gotten.
So I think I've had enough, and will not bother with the long slog to 15 and maybe 5 points on speed or endurance. It was moderate fun to start with, but now seems like a rather pointless grind for which I get bupkis.

Agreed. It's just another time-waster. It's sole-purpose is to suck in players who might switch over to one of the games where the company just might make some money.
But, it's an amusing little time-waster for the time being.
Arghhh!!! Just made level 13 and got 1 health point and a net. What a rip.
FYI: Though my online time has been sporatic lately, I am still checking in periodically to see if there are new entries into the Clan. USAgent, I never saw your entry there, so if you're still interested, try joining again. We're at 26 members if anyone's curious.
My character FINALLY got something other than a lousy stat boost leveling up. Sure it's just thick skin, but after too many levels of crud, I'm glad to get anything. Incidentally, I took over one of my pupils that didn't have a password and wasn't doing anything for weeks on end, leveled her up a bit and ended up with a bear. whoah.
I'm playing around with a few brutes to fill the time (since the fights are over with so fast...). For the most part I've gotten a decent mix of weapons and bonuses. Not too many really good stat boosts, but the right combination seems to work very well.
Take for example Blue-Bash's pupil, Angri-La. Strength and Speed are blah, but she got a one-time boost in agility with Feline Agility. She also wound up with Martial Arts and Tornado of Blows. For weapons, she got a broadsword (decent), mastadon bone (decent), and a flail (nice!). Add in good health points, and she's got a decent package.
She's able to dodge blows, does fair damage unarmed. But when she hauls out that flail, she does a lot of damage and Tornado of Blows allows her an increased chance of multihit. If she multihits with that flail, she can ruin another brute's day real fast.
Nice perk, that flail is. Makes short work of my brutes all the time. I've yet to snag anything too useful with my handful of "perfect build" attempts. Made a half dozen and the best I could do was one that got "Bumps" early, but nothing else (still seems to lose every match anyways).
Frankenskank goes to level 14!
Strength improved.
Whoo hoo. Just went from winning 80% of my fights to loosing 100% Just what I needed +1 Strength. Didn't want a Bear like everyone else I seem to encounter. Oh well, at least I know that you can start a match, then go back to your cell to view the results. Nothing worse than having to sit through an arse whoopin.
Has anybody gotten a ranking or a title yet? My "student" with the bear just popped up with one of each, and it doesn't seem to be tied to # of wins, as there's others in the clan that have more. Perhaps it's a %-age of wins? I don't think he got too extra far in the last tourny he was in.
My understanding is that titles ONLY come from the tournaments. You have to get to a certain tier in order to get one, but if your student had a bear, maybe he got to the 64th precentile or so (I think that's where titles start)
Yep, it's all tourney based. You have to get to the final 1024 or 11 hrs in. I think I usually get booted by hour 5.
I hate it when an upgrade makes you worse! I got the club recently and it sucks - slow, no chance to multi hit, throw or block. If my Brute grabs it he almost always looses - can't hit with it and the other guy just carves him up.
What we need is a really bright person to make a slightly more customizable variation of the game. I'd like to see something where you can actually choose your upgrade when you level. Maybe set up some sort of experience point/point buy advancement system. And have the option to bank your XP for a while to save up for something huge. I don't care so much about controlling the fight, but it would be very cool to be able to guide your upgrades.
try urban rivals, it sort of feels the same, but you get to play as much as you like!
has anyone been able to log onto mybrute? i haven't in days.
Has anyone noticed that they've been having some kind of server issues lately? Unavailability, tournys that don't start for days on end. Wonder if it's gotten bigger than they expected.
On a similar subject, I'm seeing lots of brutes with seemingly random characters for names. My guess is some kind of bot to register tons of characters as someone's students, to boost his own levels artificially. Don't think I care for that kind of sportsmanship.
i've decided to jump on in here.
http://lord-elcorion.mybrute.com
my first level up gave me an endurance increase and a baton, and i started out with sabotage in my abilities
i've also just gone to join the clan, pending approval
You're approved Lord Elcorion. Sorry I haven't checked in on my account in a while. Got frustrated with so many crappy upgrades (or lack thereof) but I'll try to check in more often.
@PantherGunn: at one point when I was looking for an explanation on what all the little power icons meant, I found a couple of sites that showed how to cheat at it so I'm not surprised one bit. It's a shame really.
