what would you guys recommend?
Now I'm jealous...gimme gimme gimme!
Astro City is a great read. Too bad it wasn't really very consistently published when I was able to buy it.
"Astro City" is charming and cleverly written. Even though most of the stories are separate, there's definitely an ongoing feel to it.
Astro City is a great series, even though it comes out on a highly erratic schedule with huge gaps between new books.
can someone give me a good link on all the astro city characters powers/bios.also...who's the orange guy who looks like the early version thing?
i found one despite all the views.any body needing astro information just look here...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astro_City
Yeah, not nearly as much info there as I would like, but then there isn't as much info ANYWHERE as I would like, since Busiek and company are playing things close to the vest. They've got the whole universe fleshed out, but they only reveal it one piece at a time. It's maddening! Heck, people have been waiting ten years to figure out what happened to the Silver Agent!
hey! ran across this too....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_characters_in_Astro_City_series#Groups
To answer your question, start on the first trade and work through them sequentially.
OR read the best one, Confession.
I would recommend the first book.. first.
It's got a good sense of what Astro City is all about.. I loved the story with the journalist writing about the Honor Guard battling the Sharkmen. If you enjoyed that, then the rest will be a pleasure to read, particularly the Confessor storyline. The current book, Dark Ages, is really good too.
I just read the Dark Age TPB ... really good stuff. It's easily my second favourite behind Confession.
The whole 'death of the Silver Age of comics' theme is really cool, with the new, violent heroes being introduced in the '70s. I also loved the mob clamouring for the execution of
Spoiler
Silver Agent
... obviously a metaphor for fans wanting more death in comics.
This comic works on a few different levels, which is unusual for a
straight-up superhero comic. I'm glad people are now starting to skin these characters for FF.
