Title: FF in Star Trek Legacy?
Post by: Previsionary on April 10, 2009, 02:53:26 PM
Randomly found this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0n58PAebBQ) on the youtube. Looks like someone took to adapting a few skins/meshes for the game (though not released according to the description). I found it interesting in a, "hey, you adapted characters into non-moving statues/ships for a game I don't think I've ever heard of...ha...yeah."

I think it looks amazing.
and once he contacts the mesh and skin creators, what would be wrong with releasing them as mods for the game?
i like the work that went into the heast vision and unibeam too.  perhaps he could expand on it by giving the green lanterns various powers too.
actually i think green lantern would be a great addition to a star trek game like that just for playing around in,  since they are space based, have shields and energy weapons.

Well, he says right there on the video that he won't release his mod because he doesn't have permission, so it won't happen unless he does.

I've always wondered how hard it would be or if it would even work to try to add some of the meshes from FF to the game Oblivion. They both use the same engine which uses nif files just different versions. I believe you can change the versions of nif files using Blender. I think it would be cool to have the X-men as companions in the game. Of course I agree that none of that can be made available online without permission but I think it's fine for someone to do for their own personal experimentation.

Anyone know what mesh and skin was used in that video for Iron Man?

Somebody try this now!

Its possible, but the meshes would have to be classed as creatures rather than NPCs. And then there'd need to be a lot of work done to animations.

Possible, nothing I can see myself trying, though.

Agreed, I'm sure these aren't releasable.  But it is interesting.  It was kind of cool seeing Supes taking on a Romulan Warbird.  Hmmmmmmmm....

Last year I made a bunch of Avengers as Oblivion NPCs to accompany me (Cap, Hawkeye, Black Knight, Wanda, as they all fit in in terms of powers). It's kinda fun. Not much point porting FF meshes into Oblivion as they are a bit low poly compared to the ingame stuff. I just made new stuff for Oblivion, or re-skinned existing stuff.

Hey Tommy,

I tried to import a mesh of Colossus in Blender and exported it as the Oblivion version of the nif. My intent was to just bring it in as a static object just to see if I could do it but once I enabled the esp in Oblivion and travel to the location to where I placed the object Oblivion crashes. I didn't have a lot of time to tinker with it but from the limited research I was able to do there may have been some nifskope stuff I need to do before it will work. I have yet to use nifskope so it may be a while before I can figure it out.

I was wondering how you handled the animations. I assume with your skills you just created new meshes and either new keyframes or used the ones that came with Oblivion? Would the keyframes that come with a FF mesh be usable in Oblivion? I think they can be exported as different versions in Blender as well but I have no idea if Oblivion can use them.

Due to the inherent learning curve involved in making stuff for a different game, (combined with my laziness and impatience), I went with creating new stuff that uses existing Oblivion game animations, or tweaking existing stuff that uses Oblivion anims. I have the characters use whatever weapons are to hand, as if you try to limit them, they tended to get killed a lot.
I suppose you could put the FF keyframes into Oblivion, but to what end? You are going to have superheroes in a very fantasy setting, which works about as well as Conan in New York, ie not well at all. It's a lot of effort to go to for a result which is never going to be great, IMO.
